Moms of 2+ - make me feel better.

Apparently, I'm gaining weight like gangbusters. Haven't done anything differently than the first pregnancy. In fact, most of y'all know I lost 30 lbs. over the last year or so. Baby's sizing like Geneva did - about 8 days ahead, but on track to be close to a 9-pounder.

Was your weight gain way different the second/third time around?

  • Yep, I gained more weight with Noah than I did with Benjamin and I did everything the same.  Not sure if that's a correlation to a second pregnancy though.

  • Yes, I think I gained at least 10lbs more with Allison. Part of the reason was that I was not as active and I was also chasing after Elliott. Allison ended up being 10lbs 3oz. delivered via c-section right at 40 weeks.
  • I gained pretty much the same amount of weitght; however I still had not gotten rid of the extra 10 pounds with C.  Therefore all in all I'm gained the about the same amount but with the extra 10 pounds which is a bummer.
  • I gained 27 lbs with Ethan and gave birth to an 8lb 2oz baby at 38 weeks.  I lost my weight plus some just a couple months after I delivered him.  With my second pregnancy, I was sick the entire time that I only gained 3lbs more than I did with my first pregnancy and Jack was 9lb 2oz at 38.5 weeks.  I lost about 10 lbs after delivery, but I pretty much gained it all back.  That was 2 1/2 years ago now.  Boo :-(  Yeah, I've got to do something to lose this weight; obviously it's not coming off on it's own.

  • I actually gained about the same with Sophie but I am holding onto more since she was born than with Gavin.  I am one of those sad souls that doesn't lose weight while BF.  It sucks.  If one more person says "But you're BF, doesn't that make you LOSE weight?"  I am going to slap them.  With Gavin, I kept 10 lbs until I weaned.  With Sophie, it's 15 lbs.  And it is not going anywhere at the moment.  I am praying that it will come off when I wean at 1 year.

I don't know ONE person who loses weight when breastfeeding! I think its an Old Wives' Tale!

But this terrifies me when I get pregnant with another, I gained 65 lbs with Abigail! Still 10 lbs heavier than I was when I got pregnant with Abigail.

Count me in as one who hates people who say this.

I gained less with Liam, but its slower coming off than with Evie.  With Evie I held onto about 15 pounds in the 2 years after she was born before I got pregnant with Liam.  Now I'm about 25 pounds over where I want to be.  Liam was smaller than Evie, though, so maybe that's why I gained less with him.

I started out weighing more when I was pg the second time around but I think I gained about the same, maybe a little more right at the end bc I had pre-e and had a ton of fluid.  I think I lost like 28 lbs of fluid before I left the hospital but didn't lose one single solitary pound after that until recently.

With Carter I gained about 50 pounds.  And i was miserable.  I had such bad MS throughout the entire thing that i just ate what i wanted whenever I wanted.  Sad thing is, that i lost about 7 lbs in the beginning b/c i was puking so much.  This alarmed my OB and he pretty much said, eat whatever you can....even if you are only eating cake and ice cream...just eat something.  Apparently I took his suggestion to heart and never stopped eating.  To add insult to injury, he was born at 37w at a mere 6lbs2oz.  So i had 44 lbs to knock off at the end.  Not good, but i was able to do it within the 1st year.

I vowed to control my eating habits the 2nd time around.  Gained approx. 35lbs with Ava, and the MS was even worse with her.  She was induced at 39w and weighed 7lbs2oz.   I still have 3 lbs to go.  Yes she's 3.5.  Le sigh.

Had I been able to keep Carter in longer, I think his weight would have been more on track and equal to Ava.  I shudder to think how much more weight i could have gained with him if i had the additional 3 weeks.  Oink!!

  • I actually gained 5 less with Isaac but it was much harder to get it off.  And the only reason I didn't gain as much was bc my heartburn made me too miserable to eat.

I gained 40 with Easton because I ate anything I wanted and I only gained 21 with Ellie Brooke because I knew better than to eat like crap again! I lost all but about 4 pounds from Eastons pregnancy when I got pg again at 10mo post partum. I am still 6 pounds over my pre pg weight but I am not really trying to lose it considering I eat brownies 3 nights a week before bed. I am running but I am gaining a little rather than losing I guess due to muscle.

  • I gained 17lbs with Cadence. At 28 weeks with Trevor I had already gained 20 so I was on track to gain a lot more the second time around. Then I found out I had GD and went on the GD diet. I immediately lost weight after starting the diet and my total gain for the pregnancy was about 11lbs. I feel like the GD caused the larger weight gain up front for me and once it was controlled my weight gain followed suit.

This. This is exactly why I'm worried. I gained a total of 40 with Geneva and big ol' whale over here (points at my ass) is 25 weeks and 32 lbs. up already. There has to be something going on. Or else I'm gestating a truly ginormous baby.

don't be scared, i've gained only 11 lbs this pregnancy and I've done nothing different eating-wise! I gained 35 lbs with Kate.

I just found out I have GD this time, so my doctor says if I follow the GD diet, I won't gain much more than a few pounds probably... so I'm looking at probably gaining 20 lbs less this time. I'll take it!

Myrall, it may slow down... it could be that you're just gaining it earlier this time!

  • I gained 20 or so with Finn, and 11 with Lila. I had horrible food aversions and heartburn so I think that is why Finn was 6lbs 13oz and Lila was 8lbs 2oz, so I left the hospital down almost 15 lbs with her, and have lost almost 15 more, so I guess to lose weight I need to have babied! I am a freak.

  • I gained 35 with Jack, 25 with Ethan, and then 35 with Lauren.  I was not back to my normal weight when I got pregnant with Ethan (actually got pregnant as soon as I weaned Jack, so no time since I do not lose by BF!)....with Lauren I started out at my "fighting weight" but I ate like crap.  I need to lose about 20 pounds now, and just need to find the motivation to put down the fork and start running again.

With Alec, I gained 17 lbs.  He was 8lb, 6oz. born at 40 weeks  I lost the 17 lbs, plus 10 more within 6 months all doing WW.

With Aerin, I gainved 25 lbs. She was 8lb, 13oz born at 38.5 weeks.  I lost all the pregnancy weight after 7 months doing WW and running.

My body dramatically changed after having 2.  Now that I'm doing physical therapy for my abs and pelvic floor, it's starting to get back to normal...that combined with 3 months of boot camp and running.

The one thing I've learned from PT is that as soon as the baby is out, you should start wearing spanx, or compression core shorts. They really train your muscles to come together and start working properly.
