How long do you wait?

How long do you sit in the waiting room, on average, to see you OB?  I usually have to wait about an hour before I see her!  Just wondering how long you all have to wait before you see your doc.

Re: How long do you wait?

  • Depends on which doc I am seeing and the time of day.  I try to schedule appointments early in the day bc it allows DH to work second shift that day so I don't have to lug DS around.  When I do this I generally don't wait unless there is a delivery in progress. If I have afternoon appointments sometimes I could wait 60 - 90 minutes or longer if they have a delivery.  It irks me every time.

  • Wow, and hour is super long.. I got in usually 5 mins before by appointment time just to be safe (I have OCD issues about being late for stuff) and I'm always taken within 10 minutes of my arrival, sometimes i sit down, get a magazine and the nurse comes in for me then.  I'd go crazy at having to wait an hour!

  • The most I have had to wait is about 20 minutes. I usually get right in. I see a team of doctors, I don't if that makes a difference or not.

  • I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my midwife appointments.

  • It depends. Sometimes I get there and wait 30-45 minutes and sometimes I wait 5 minutes. I usually don't mind because my doctor 'seemed' pretty thorough about everything and is really great about questions and concerns. I say seemed because of never getting my A/S and not having another u/s until around 30 wks. =$

  • I was lucky and snagged the very first appointment of the day for each visit.  We wait 10ish minutes.

  • My OB is known for running behind, but he also doesn't rush me during my appointment no matter how far behind he already is (which I guess is why he's always behind).

Now that I'm on summer break and my appts are 2 weeks apart, I scheduled them in advance and tried to take the first appt of the day.

  • The only time I've waited more than 10 minutes is when he was delivering a baby, and they came and told me he was in delivery.

  • 30min-1hour .. There has been one time that it was shorter, and the waiting room was empty, so I guess my appointment was just at the right time. More often than not, they apologize and say they are short staffed or extra busy, some excuse like that lol. Also, they want me there 20 min before appointment, so sometimes that makes it seem longer.

It seems like my OB is always extra busy.  I've tried showing up a bit later for an appointment, which I find terribly hard to do because I hate being late, but, the wait is still as long.  It seems like they take you in the order that you come.  I think that she just schedules too many appointments in one day trying to sqeeze everyone in.  It's very frustrating.

  • Usually they send me right back to do my urinalysis and weight. When I finish with that I usually get seen by the midwife assistant right away to do blood pressure, etc. Then when she's done, the midwife comes in within 5 minutes or so. One time another appointment had run late, so I waited more like 10 minutes.
  • Usually in the waiting room about 5 minutes.  Then i go back with the nurse for the weight, urine, and blood pressure measurement.  Then i wait in the room for up to 30 minutes to see the doctor.

  • We waited an hour today to see our peri.  This is usual for that office---we usually wait anywhere between 45 minutes-1 hour.  It really frustrating because we go once a week!

Our OB on the other hand isn't as bad.  We usually only wait 10 minutes or so.

  • My OB takes pregnant patients first. I never wait more than 10 minutes for her when I'm pregnant, but for yearly exams and such, I've waited 30 or so minutes to see her.

  • I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes with my current OB.  I have waited as long as 3 hours with other ob/gyn doctors though.

  • Depends if my doctor is going on vacation or not...last time I waited 5 minutes, the time before that, it was an hour.

On average, I would say it's a 10 minute wait.

  • Before we moved, I was seen at a huge practice (8 docs & 6 MWs). I rarely had to wait in the main waiting room for very long (20 minutes max, usually 5-10), but they'd transfer me to a smaller waiting room....and then my MW was notorious for always running behind, so I often had to wait in the exam room for her for 15-30 minutes. I once waited more than 45 minutes in the exam room alone.

My new OB is at a small practice (3 docs), and they pride themselves on their short waits -- I've only been once, but I was in the waiting room for 5 minutes and then waited in the exam room for less than 5 minutes.

  • I get there 10min before, and I'm either taken in early or right on time.  My appointment is under 10min, yet I have never felt rushed, and my doctor has awesome ''bedside manners.''  My doctor is a perinatologist (high risk OBGYN), and I have to say, I'm blown away at how effecient his office runs - his 2 secretaries are fabulous and return calls back on the same day, and his nurse (who at first rubbed me the wrong way), is as fast as lightning!  I totally love and appreciate that I'm in and out in under 30min!

I'm lucky, and I love it!

  • Usually no wait. The longest has been maybe 10 or 15 minutes. They've even seen me early a couple times. I do try to get one of the early appointments, though (8:30 a.m. or so). When I was doing my 3-hour glucose test, I noticed that the worst time seems to be around 10 a.m.

With other ob-gyn offices, I did need to wait an hour or more, though, and that was just for an annual exam. So I think it varies a lot.

  • Depends on the day... it usually takes 5-15 minutes to go back into the room. Once in the room it can take longer. I think we have waited up to 30 to see the doctor once we are in the room.

  • I only wait for 5 or 10 minutes in the waiting room, and then just a couple minutes in the exam room.  They are very fast there.  I love it.

  • Maybe 15 minutes.

  • Forever.. one time was super long like 20 min in waiting room then another 30 in a room.. ugh.. usually ta 30-45 I think.. I love the office too much to swtch plus the hospital id deliver at is awesome.. so I deal with the wait.
  • Even if we get to the appointment early, no more than 5 minutes for the lab tech, and another 10 (max) for the midwife.  The only exception to this was once when the birth center had 4 women in labor at the same time (they have 3 birth rooms plus an overflow room)--so all the midwives were down helping with the births and the NP's were fitting everyone in as they were able.  That time we waited about 45 minutes.

  • I usually wait 30-45 mins on average.  I think a lot of the time its because I go after work around 4:30-5:30pm and they're just busy!
