Gift idea for 4-year old boy?

He loves trains, and his birthday party is train-themed. My main concern is that I'll give him something train-related that he already has. They have 3 boys and a ton of toys. Should I just pick something cute and train-related and give a gift receipt and hope for the best?

Re: Gift idea for 4-year old boy?

  • I can't remember if it was his 3rd or 4th bday that we got this for my nephew and he absolutely adores it. And now his younger brother does too. I think we got him a train whistle to go with it, too.

  • IME as a mom of a 4yr old boy and playdate hostess to all his 4yr old friends, most boys that age love trains and all things train-related. doesn't mean they don't also like other things as well!

here are some of the non-train things that get the most use at our house:

    Lincoln Logs

    Zoob

Uncle Milton Moon in My Room

    Night Vision Goggles

    Camera

Tomas and all his friends are totally into rocket balloons. i bet they would love this balloon powered vehicle!

we bought this doodle board for tomas right before audrey was born (so he was almost 4) and he hasn't put it down since. he uses it in the car, at restaurants, during his quiet time in his room (he doesn't sleep at nap time anymore). i love it bc it's a quiet toy and it keeps his attention while fostering creativity.

board games like Chutes and Ladders, Candyland and Memory are great at this age, too.

and of course, anything and everything train-related! tomas has these thomas & friends wall stickers and loves them

b/c i'm hat obsessed on my little boy, what about a train conductor's hat so he could play dress up w/ the trains?  I got one at gymboree for sprout (but it was in the sale bin).
