Success after IF

Just curious - if you had a lap - did they find endometriosis?

In my case they did - but it was found to be "mild" - and I remember my doctor basically saying that if you did a lap on almost any 35 year old woman (my age at the time) - you'd probably find at least some mild endo.  I am just curious to see if anyone had a lap and there was NO endo found.  Just collecting random data for no good reason other than my own curiousity.  Thanks for playing!  Cool

Re: Just curious - if you had a lap - did they find endometriosis?

  • I had a lap when I had my ectopic removed and they found no endo at all, but I was 26.

At my mom's hysterectomy done in her early 40s they told her there was no endo.

ETA:  my mom asked about the endo because her sister had endo really bad and needed to do IVF (in the late 80s/early 90s) because of it and she thought she might have some of the symptoms.

Before I went under for my colon tumor removal (which was done laparascopically), I reminded the doc to look for endometriosis :)  He said they were looking for more cancer, and given how closely they'd look, they'd find even the minutest trace of endo.

    They found no endo.

    Yay?

    :)

  • I did and they did not find a thing.  I was 26 at the time.  My Mom had severe endo and couldn't get pregnant with me for nearly 2 years and after meds to get rid of it.  I had been TTC unsuccessfully and unexplained for nearly 2 years myself when I insisted we at least take a peak and see.  The following month I found out I had MTHFR and 10 days later I got pregnant!

  • I had minor endo ("stage one or two," he said) when I had a lap when I was 30 years old.

My RE said the SAME exact thing, word for word.  He basically tried to talk me out of it, esp. if we were considering IVF, b/c it would bypass endo issues anyway.  I was not ready to consider IVF at that point, and wanted to try everything we could to avoid it (3 more IUI's and 2 more c/p's later, we gave in).  Anyway....I was 33 at the time, and he did find Stage 1-2.  I had zero symtoms and no family history. Some was on my ovaries and ute.  May or may not have played a factor in egg quality, he said.  Biggest thing he found was one of my tubes was a bit kinked....may or may not have been a contributor to my IF.  Even though I'd had an HSG before, in which the dye flowed, but it did spill very slowly on that side.  I tend to think some of my c/p's were a result of the egg getting caught up in the kinked tube (one was possibly ectopic).

Sorry to digress.....but yes, my case would line up w/ your dr's stats!

  • I had a lap/myomectomy done a few weeks after I turned 30.  My RE found endometrioma (endo in the form of a cyst on my ovary) but he didn't find it any other place.

  • I had a LAP/HSC done when I was ttc#1 and he removed my uterine polyps and "a touch of endo".  I was a month from my 31st birthday.

When I had tttc#2 he felt like the symptoms that led him to assume endo the first time hadn't returned.  When I ended up having another c/s he looked to see if anything had returned and it was all clear.  I was 35 then.

Yep, but the reason I had a lap was because they strongly suspected I had an endometrioma on my ovary.
