It has just been one of those days - I need to vent...
My mom and I have an ODD relationship. Before I got married we were super close, but then I felt like she was trying to compete with DH for my attention or something. Then after she went through a bout of ovarian cancer she just turned CRAZY. She has become super selfish and holier than thou.
She lives in podunkville Oregon and we live in TX. So obviously it takes a plane ride to visit one another. We have lived here for 5 years and in that time she has been to visit 3 times. Now it is a lot less expensive to fly one person out then it is to fly 4 people to her house.
So so said she wants to come for a visit when the baby comes - great. I called today to tell her that I found a decent price on tickets for her trip. And she wants me to pay for her airfare... FOR REAL???? I have 2 kids and a third on the way and I am taking an extended LOA to stay home with the baby. She said, "well I have to pay for a pet sitter and I don't get vacation pay when I don't work". To which I replied, " ok so you are going to pay for our 4 planes tickets to your house since I have to pay a pet sitter and daycare costs even though the girls will not be in daycare for 2 weeks?" She didn't say anything other than, well its just not the same. DUH - your ticket is $361 - ours are $1668.
GGGRRRR she makes me crazy.... oh and the best part is right before she pulled this stunt she told me she just bought a bunch of clothes for her brother's daughter b/c she remembers having a cool aunt who used to send her clothes - WTF
Re: mom vent
No offense to your mother but I would not pay for her ticket. And, I would base that solely on how she approached the subject. If she had said, "I'm really sorry and as much as I would love to be there for you, I just can't afford a plane ticket right now." then I would have probably scrapped together the money and made it happen. But, if your like me and you end up buying her a ticket then your just going to be pissed off the whole time she's here and you won't enjoy her company.
I'm sorry your having to deal with this.
exactly.
