I get emails from TB now and then....and I got one about risk factors for preterm birth. It mentioned something called a fetal fibronectin test...it's a test for a protein that acts like "glue" that attaches the amniotic sac to the lining of your uterus.
Apparently if you test positive for this test, you have a greater risk of having a preemie.
Thought I'd share....I've never heard of this before.
I am seeing my Dr. on Monday for an u/s and am going to ask her about this.
Here's a link with some info -
Re: fetal fibronectin test?
Thank you for responding. After reading up on it, I was like - Oh great....another test I have to worry about.
I am already at risk for pre-term labor because of a blood clotting disorder I have. The two aren't connected, which is good.
It was just strange....I've heard of so many tests during pregnancy..but never this one.
My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
I had this test done twice with my last pregnancy. Both times stemmed from preterm contractions. I had high blood pressure and had to do NSTs twice a week. Both times I didnt feel my contrations but had severe back pain, later I learned I was having back labor.
The FFN tests are like a vaginal ultrasound, no pregnant woman I ever talked to had had one before. Both were negative, apparently if they come back positive normally you go into labor within the next 48 hours. At least that is what they explained to me.
