Stomach Sleeping (babies, not mommies)

Once they can get their own their own, there is no need to freak about babies sleeping on their bellies, right? In the last few days, Ellie has mastered rolling from back to belly and as of last night, has decided sleeping on her belly is comfy (must take after her mom) Of course, I checked on her an extra 9 million times last night....

Of course, she hasn't figured out how to roll back onto her back, so when she wakes up all hell breaks loose!

Re: Stomach Sleeping (babies, not mommies)

  • When I was last watching my friend's twin boys (they were about 6 months old at the time), this is how one of them took his nap:

I have a picture of it because I had to text/pic message his mom to be sure it was okay.  I was pretty scared and constantly checking on him.

Of course, I know nothing of how it'll be when I'm a mommy, but I know that this little guy's mommy said, "yep, he's okay.  He'll turn his head or roll over if he needs to breath."  Ack, Not excited for this worrisome stage!!

  • once they can roll they're good to go

rosie was a tummy sleeper from about day 4 on .. no worries from me. we took all of the necessary precautions re sids - fan in the room, binkie, nothing in the crib BUT her. dd also had tracheamalacia and we could literally hear her breathe 2 rooms away.

  • Both my boys were/are tummy sleepers. Even when swaddled I would lay on their sides. They got a better rest that way. I just propped up the tummy so they could get ALL the way over on their faces. Now Collin sleeps tummy side down spread eagle.....bed hog!

  • Our DS has been rolling on his stomach to sleep since 3 months.  At his 4 month appointment, the dr told us to put his mattress at a 30 degree angle until 6 months due to sids.  We did it, but honestly, we felt that since he could fully roll on his own and lift his head and neck up, we felt it was ok to sleep that way.  He loves it.
