I'm sure this gets asked all the time and I don't meant o repeat but like a lot of you everything with us is OOP and that on top of my husbands Chemo bills are just lets say stressful and I have looked online for places that offer help or Grants ect but most of the ones I find you had to fill it out before you ever went on chemo treatment which obviously doesn't work for us so I thought I would ask all of you if you know of anything or got a grant through someone or are just toughing it out yourselves ;o) TIA and also if any one has tricks for cutting costs I'd love to know those as well I hear a lot about getting medications donated by your facility ect so not sure who I should ask to see if I can get the same. Thanks any help is more appreciated than you know !!!
Re: Help With Costs
I'm sorry to hear that you are OOP. I know it sucks we are too. I don't have any information regarding grants. I always felt like it was a little like playing the lottery and most places required an application fee so we didn't go that route. We're taking out a loan through fertility finance to pay for treatment itself. We decided to do Shared Risk. Our clinic allows us to do up to 6 fresh cycles for one flat fee and if we don't take home a life child they refund the money. ($20,000). As far as the meds go we did have some donated to us by our nurse. When they get extra meds turned into our clinic the nurses pass them out to people who are OOP. I also did something a bit taboo in regards to acquiring medications. I got in touch with people over the internet through (google groups, topix, give away acosta on fb) and purchased their unused meds at a discounted rate. I was very scared but it worked out ok. I only purchased meds from people who would send them COD and verify expiration dates. I also didn't but any single vials only sealed boxes. Everything arrived as advertised and most even sent very kind notes wishing us luck. In total I saved over $1300 on the cost of the meds. I'm not saying it works out for everyone but sometimes being broke and OOP you have think outside the box.
I wish you the best of luck! IF is hard enough without the financial burden!
January 2016 - BFP after IF... Who knew???
Hello. I'm sorry you are going through this. We are OOP also. If you google IVF Grants there are several out there. They all have different deadlines and criteria. I've applied for a few of them, but don't have a lot of hope of actually getting one.
When my RE found out we were applying for grants they offered to donate our medicine. That was great!! I would talk to your financial person to see if they have any programs available to help reduce the cost or any medicine they can donate. There is also an OOP Medicine donation program that the girls on here set up. Have you checked that out?
Good luck!
