DH is a videojournalist and just found out he's been nominated for TWO EMMYS! I am so proud and we are so excited. Now I need to find an evening gown to wear to a pretty fancy dinner and awards ceremony next month. I will be about 5.5 months along by that point... I was thinking that maybe something empire style would look nice? I checked out some of the maternity bridesmaids dresses from places like davids bridal and I like a few of them but those are more than I was hoping to spend for something I likely will never wear again. Anyone have any low cost ideas??

Re: maternity friendly evening gowns
How exciting!
I have no idea where to look, I've never had a need for one
I do agree that empire waist would probably be your best bet. Unfortunately, maternity clothes aren't cheap.

Check a place like TJMAxx or Marshalls. They usually have a big dress selection and lots of random different styles. I wore a strapless black empire waisted dress from TJMaxx when I was 8 months pregnant and it fit fine even though it wasn't maternity. At 5.5 months you should have no problem finding a regular dress to fit. This is kind of what it looked like :0) Also, congrats to your hubby!
When I went to a wedding a couple of months ago I bought a maternity/nursing dress from Amazon by https://www.milknursingwear.com/, very affordable and plenty of material for the 5.5 month mark.https://us.asos.com/?hrd=1 stock the mama.licious label which has some nice semi-formal type dresses. And then if you want to splurge a little then I also like https://www.1intheoven.com/ very affordable dresses but for something dressier https://www.isabellaoliver.com/womens-clothes/us.
HTH!
PS and Congrats to your DH, that's quite an achievement!!
Hot Mama is fantastic, but they don't have much/anything that dressy. Boutique 280 is a great although a smaller shop. They're really not that pricey and have more good quality dressy options than I've seen anywhere else.
Another option to try is Nordstrom maternity. They don't carry maternity at Kenwood, but last time I checked they had a lot of good gown options on sale at a pretty reasonable cost online. And a plus to Nordstrom is that you can return it to the store - even maternity.
Thank you all so much for the great ideas! Im excited to start shopping around
