Snarky and T-TTC

Stacy

Just out of curiosity - what clinic do you go to?

I had a phone consult  with a clinic in Creve Coeur today and thought I'd get some inside info if it's where you go.  DH is totally NOT interested in traveling and paying OOP for IVF but I'm still curious because it was totally not what I wanted to hear today :P

Re: Stacy

  • BIP to say I'm thinking of you, Gidge! I hope you, your H, and RE (new or current), come up with a successful plan. (((HUGS)))

  • I am thinking about switching to the clinic in Creve Coeur!  It is just 15 minutes from my house. (I need to talk DH into it though.  He wants to be done with treatments.) I have heard good things about them, and the main RE is supposed to really know everything about MFI.  What did you think of them after the phone consult?

I am not recommending my RE anymore after this recent experience.  And they are being less than helpful with my appeal to the insurance company to the point that they told me yesterday, "Why appeal?  You are going to lose."  They are so nice when everything is going great.  But, if you have issues, you are pretty much on your own.

  • That sucks Stacy :(

Good luck to both of you!!!

It sucks that your clinic isn't being more helpful.  They should want to help you appeal (and help make sure you don't lose!).

The RE was very confident and seemed very nice.  He doesn't think I've been on the right protocol and doesn't think I need donor egg....just not sure I believe him or agree.  I really just wanted the consult to hear that de was the way to go (we've been looking at donor profiles and just need to make a decision and see when our choice would be available) and get more thoughts on the odds using DH's sperm.

Instead he said he thought we should give it 2 tries with a slightly different protocol and not trigger as early (apperently even though my follicles were technically mature he didn't think they were mature enough).

He thinks we should use ds though because of the issues that are there with non obstructive azoo (from what I gather from radio interviews/their chat board he kind of feels like if the body isn't producing enough sperm to make it out - there is a reason and you shouldn't probably use it).

DH is ready to try DE and then be done with treatment - he really isn't interested in cycling that far away or going "backwards".  Plus, I'm not really interested in trying again with my own eggs if we're using ds. He didn't even want me to do the call. Now I'm wishing I didn't!

I feel like there are even more questions than answers at this point. My RE seems pretty confident in the protocol we used and that there are egg issues (the clinic has decent stats so it's not like they're doing it ALL wrong for everyone).  This guy seems confident I don't need DE at all. I really don't know who to believe.  It's so tempting to go based off how well known he is and the reputation.  I just don't know if we have the energy and desire (and $$) to travel for this.Tongue Tied

Anyway after all my babbeling- the phone consult was free.  So if you guys decide you want to hear another opinion at least it wouldn't cost anything.

  • I told DH that we might as well talk to them since the phone consult is free.  What do we have to lose?  DH doesn't want to spend more $$$ though down the road. But, I would like to know if this RE thinks we need to go the DS route or if we could somehow improve things and get beyond the zero fert.   I wish I had decided to switch over to this RE before my last IVF.  Then, maybe I would be KU and not in the predicament I am in now with all the medical bills.

Good luck with your decision.  It is a hard one.  If you do decide to come here for treatment,  maybe we can meet up. That would be fun. :-)

I really hope your clinic steps up to help you fight the insurance issue so you can get some relief with the medical bills.

I will let you know if we end up checking out the clinic  or if my company ever sends me that direction again (we haven't had the budget to travel much the last couple years but the headquarters is STL, so if I ever go anywhere that's it!).
