Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby Whisper help

Hi ladies, I have a 3 month old whom I thought was on a some what decent schedule, but I'm realizing she's more of a snacker and bed time is horrible.  I'm reading the Baby Whisper, but she talks more about babies around 6 weeks and then how to start 4 month olds. My DD has totally found her hands, she loves to suck on them, but I still swaddle her for all naps and at bed time.  She wakes herself up still.  She's great in the bath until she gets out then she cries, no matter if the room is really warm. She sleeping in her RnP at night and swing during the day so already I've started horrible accidental parenting according to this book.  She also wakes up a couple times in the night to eat.  Although sometimes she won't eat and just is awake.  I'm wondering if anyone had success with her methods 3 months and on?  I can get the E.A.S.Y during the day fairly well.  Though my LO gets weird with eating at times.  (She's on Nutrimagen for colic and previcid for reflux) It's always a fight to get her down at night.  And she won't even try to sleep in her crib.  Just laying in it playing around after she's had her fill she wants out.  I thought I would ask for some help, or if you think there is something else I should be trying to that I can get her in a good routine and easier to go down at night.  I also try rocking her up right and her neck is so strong she will head butt me.  Ugg I'm in tears trying to get her to eat enough every day and get down and not be so hard to get down at night.  I don't even care about not sleeping.  I just want her to get into a routine for her own sanity.

Re: Baby Whisper help

  • Lord help me, I'm gonna get flamed, but...CIO. It doesn't have to be the let-them-cry-for-an-hour variety. Look up the ferber method. Set a timer. My LO has never fussed for more than 3mins.

    Also, try dreamfeeds: https://www.babywisemom.com/2009/07/dreamfeed-fa.html

And what time are you putting her to bed? Try putting her to bed earlier.

And no matter what, you are a good mom and any schedule takes weeks to get down. Good luck!

Now, I'm going to go hide :)

  • I couldn't get on board with baby whisperer. She lost all credibility when she said I must ask permission prior to each diaper change and offer my day old baby a narrated tour of the house. I get that its good to spend time and be soothing, but seriously people, new parents have more important shiz to do (like try to keep everyone alive and functioning with no sleep)

  • The book "The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems" is one she wrote after the first original book and has a section about how to get older babies on the routine which she says is different than with the younger ones.  Maybe you could look at that one.  I read it for the most part (skipping sections that didn't apply to me) and some of the advice really helped.  GL!

I've been doing EASY, too, and have A LOT of the same problems you do.  LO only sleeps in the RnP, he does fairly well w/ EASY during the day, getting him to bed at night is often a nightmare.  He is EBF and wakes religiously every 3 hours throughout the night...sometimes more.  Ditto on the crib situation, too.  I think I'm going to try the Ferber method in the next few weeks to get him out of the swaddle, sleeping in the crib, and eventually not waking up as much through the night.  I'm nervous about letting him cry, but with Ferber you go in and check on him in increasing increments, so maybe it won't be as difficult as I'm anticipating.  Plus, he pretty much cries anywhere from 30 min-an hr and half with me rocking/shhh-ing him each night to sleep, so who knows!

There is a BW forum....babywhispererforum.com that has a lot of info. on it.  How long are your A times?  You should probably be between an hr/20min and an hr/30min.  You may also be ready to move to a 3.5 hr EASY.  Also, what is your bedtime routine?  If you PM me your EASY routine, maybe I can help a little...even though I seem to have the same problems as you!
