I only give my kid 2 purees a day and the rest of the time I give him real fruit or whatever we are having (plus formula). When do you stop giving the purees? He really looks forward to the purees, likes them a lot but he likes the adult food too. He just turned 9 months.
Re: When do you stop giving baby purees and just give real food?
Try any time at this point; and then it's a question if they're ready for it. I started trying at 7mos with DS--puffs, mum mums, bananas, blueberries chopped up in yogurt, bread, etc. However he has a strong gag reflex and doesn't attempt to gum/chew and swallow. He just looks miserable, starts spitting up a storm and wants it out of his mouth. Teething cookies are the only thing he looks remotely happy chewing on, and even that ends when a piece breaks off. Our pedi isn't worried and thinks C doesn't like the texture at this point and to just keep trying. So give it a shot--some kids are champs right from the start and others can be on purees past a year.
LO basically refused to be spoonfed at around 9 months. We have been doing finger foods and BM since then. Some of his favorites are:
sweet potato
banana
cheese and cream cheese sandwiches
pasta (esp mac and cheese -- i find spaghetti sauce too messy and not very nutritious anyways)
black beans, corn and quinoa
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
DD still eats baby purees. We offer her table food all the time, but she hasn't shown very much interest yet. I asked our Pedi about this, and she said it's perfectly fine/normal. Some babies just don't take to table food until 1+. We always offer her things, as does day care, but when she won't eat it we just give her the stage 3 purees.
She'll put down some yogurt melts and little crunchies like nobodys business though!

Same here. Started DD on soft finger foods at 6 months.
Sorry for the ramble... Point is, one year seems to be the cut off point for purees according to daycare/my pedi.
