Any advice? 4 hours each way this weekend. We will leave at nap time, so that should take care of 2 hours, but usually he is not happy being awake in the carseat. Stopping for more than a few minutes on the way there is not an option, we are going to a wedding and leaving the day of... but we can definitely stop on the way back to break up the trip.
Re: 4 hour drive with 6 month old
If you don't have a vent on his side, bring a fan that you can angle in his direction. Car seats get really hot!
Have you introduced DVDs yet? A portable DVD player is my bff during longer car rides if it's not night time.
You could have someone sit next to him in the backseat instead of both up front.
GL... 4 hours isn't terrible if 2 of it is naptime.
Honestly it may not be that bad. We drove to Gatlinburg last year when DD was 6 months old and she slept majority of the way. The only thing we brought along were a couple of books and I sat back there with her for maybe an hour or so.
Good luck and have fun
We just did a 12 hour drive with both kids. On the way there we drove overnight, so no real issues. On the way back we did two, 6 hour days. Charlotte was great with the portable DVD player. Asher is 7 months and we couldn't get him to pay attention to the screen at all. I have a toy like this
on his seat so he could play a bit. You can borrow the toy if you want to use it for the trip. I also spent some time in the back just talking and reading to him, playing peek-a-boo etc.
GL!!
