dehydration while pg?

i'm hoping some of you can reassure me. i had a horrible stomach virus yesterday. i was up throwing up, diarrhea all night and in the morning i had a tough time pushing enough fluids. i was dizzy in the afternoon for a little bit but finally got enough fluids in that i was back to normal by the evening. can short-term dehydration damage a fetus? i was in consult w my OB all day and she was going to make me go to the ER if i wasnt better by when i was so i guess she wasn't too concerned but everything i read refers to awful consequences of dehydration - is that more so if you spend a week dehydrated? does the fetus take hydration for amniotic fluid first like it takes your nutrients first?

Re: dehydration while pg?

  • I don't think so.  I got dehydrated at one point and the only reason I knew was because I thought I was in labor.  I went to the hospital and they just gave me lots of water and sent me home.  I was fine and so was the baby.  Don't know if that helps at all but hope your feeling better.

  • I had salmonella while pg and everything was fine.  Short term is perfectly fine, just drink a ton.
