3rd Trimester

33 weeks & I feel like I'm not prepared!

I just want to know I'm not alone here - I'm 33 wks with my first & I feel like I still have a million things to do!  We have the nursery furniture set up, and what clothes we have are washed & ready to go, but I still feel like I have a list of things that need to be done.  I need to find a pediatrician (long story - 2 sets of insurances in this household, each requiring a different hospital network), I need to get the rest of my house in order, I need to get my time off figured out, etc...

Did anyone else feel like this with their first one?  I just feel like I want to stay home & either cry or pull my hair out because I feel like I won't get anything done in time!

  • You're not alone. I'm 32 weeks and feeling the same way. We still need to get a pediatrician, still have some painting left, because we are painting all of the furniture and baby stuff is stuffed in a pile, and our house is currently under construction (doing additions). I have cried and yes, i'd like to pull my hair out. I cried about it yesterday and so DH is trying to get things moving along. He's helping me make crib mobile and he said he'd paint today. But the construction is going to be on-going for a while after LO is born. ): So don't feel bad. I think a lot of us are feeling unprepared.

  • Oh honey, I'm right there with you except I have no furniture set up or clothes washed ;) I teared up on the way to work yesterday because I realized I have no idea what to do with him once I get home and have to give him a bath, breastfeed, etc.

You'll get it all done. I make my to-do lists by week, makes me feel better and makes it all seem more possible to accomplish.

  • You are not alone!  I'm 35 weeks and have nothing prepared!  No pediatrician picked out, no FMLA paperwork filled out... Nothing.... ok, now you've got me freaked out!!lol

  • You are most definitely NOT ALONE!!! I am at 31 weeks and as if it was bad enough that I feel like I still have a million things to do, my half sister is getting here with her 4 kids and will be here for the next 5 weeks and my sister-in-law is getting induced this weekend with her 5th kid....life is way too busy these days. We still have to finish painting and carpeting the nursery so I haven't gotten an furniture put together and my husband is on OT at work at the moment so he is so tired by the time he gets home at 4am that it's difficult to find time to get things finished. I think the only thing I have gotten done is washing and hanging up baby clothes. So hang in there because you really aren't alone on this one!
  • For the most part I feel prepared, but still have a few things left.

    - I need to decide on my pediatrician

    - Wash baby clothes/sheets

    - Install carseat and pack hospital bag (which I probably won't do for another couple weeks)

    - And get a few last minute baby things done.

  • I feel like this and we are on DS #3!!! The only thing I know that you don't, is that it really will be okay! New babies need some stuff, but we really do go overboard - they just need us :)

  • You are absolutely not alone in this! While we do have his nursery set up and everything that we need for him as well as our pedi chosen, we still don't have day care figured out...and honestly I just don't feel mentally prepared. I was in the L&D 2 days ago with contractions that they thankfully got to stop and I was panicking to my husband saying "if he came right now, we are SO not ready!" I think it's a common fear with FTMs. Just know that you have lots of support around you :) Best of luck!

  • Totally normal, I was the same way two years ago.  For me it was also the fear of the unknown.  I didn't know anything about babies, I hated babysitting when I was a teenager and had never changed a diaper.  So that was just the beginning of all of my issues.
  • I feel totally unprepared and I hate it when people ask me the stupid question "Do you have everything ready?" I think I'm going to start lying so I don't have to hear "Oh My! You'd better get a move on girl! You don't have much longer!"

We're almost done remodeling our entire house. We decided to do it before baby came so LO doesn't have to breath the dust and nastiness of a 110 year old house. So, no, I haven't gotten ANYTHING for the nursery, In fact, it's still full of clutter from being a 'catch all' room from when we first moved into this house.

I figure, if my boobs work like they are suppose to, baby will be fed, I have a dresser drawer for baby to sleep in ;-) All is good right? haha.

I think I take after my mother. Her first was born right at 37 weeks and she had to send Dad out to put the crib together and go BUY A CARSEAT and Clothes so they could bring my brother home. Yeah, prepared much? Nope

  • I think you're doing fabulous! I still (hopefully) have 10 weeks to go, but so far the only thing we have is a bassinet! No clothes, no bedding, no pediatrician, no paperwork. So far I have managed to cross one thing off my huge to-do list: pre-register at hospital. And only because I did it at work one day. :)

Hang in there! Things will get done. And if they don't, well, don't sweat it! :)
