Georgia Babies

Help me shop for a baby girl! :)

Okay, so I've been itching to start buying girly clothes ever since I found out we're having a girl.  I don't know what to buy, though!  There are so many choices compared to boys (pants and a shirt!)  So, my first problem is she will be born in November and I had a summer baby who lived in onesies the first time so what will a baby girl wear in November/December/January?  Should I plan for dresses and leggings?  Should everything be long sleeved or should I have short sleeve things since she'll likely be indoors most of the time?  Also, what about the babylegs things?  Are those good for winter?

What else do I need to know?  If I see sales now for summer things, what should I get for next summer?  Of course dresses are cute but what is practical for daycare?   Should I plan to do rompers and shirts/shorts for summer or what?

Okay, more questions to come but if anyone wants to point me in the right direction to get started I appreciate it!  I don't want to buy a lot of things only to find out they are not practical but it would be nice to start stocking up, if possible.

  • We didn't do much with dresses until DD was about 1 and walking only b/c it was a pain before that. I loved the one piece rompers and outfits or leggings with tops/tunics. I had so many infant dresses that never got worn. We especially skipped them during the crawling phase. Then, when DD started getting up and moving, I still did leggings a good bit to try and avoid skinned knees at daycare when they went outside.

Shopping for girls is dangerous. It is so hard to resist all the cute stuff! Have fun!!

I did dresses(comfy ones) and leggings for Aerin when she was a baby.  When she was about 8 months, I introduced tights.  We did lots of skirts, tops and tights.

We also did tops and leggings.

Also--Target has great deals on cute little girls' dresses which are great for daycare.  I used to stock up when they went on sale and get the dresses for about $2-4/piece.

  • For L (october baby) I went with long sleeve onesies, pants, and socks. Dresses are not good for the crawling stage. Baby legs are handy under winter dresses but don't stay up when crawling. For daycare I put Lily in pants or leggings. Jeans are tough to do when crawling because they don't move well. For dresses I like those osh kosh jumpers. You can also get summer dresses on sale at the end of the season. Once the baby is walking dresses are fun.

  • I love long sleeved dresses and leggings/babylegs for winter.  When they start crawling though, dresses SUCK.  During the summer months, we usually do sunsuits or rompers.  I love sydneysosweet.com for off-brand babylegs - they're SUPER cheap.  They also have lots of cute hairbows too.  Babylegs are also awesome for when they start crawling to prevent skinned knees.

  • December girl here - we did a lot of tops with leggings, rompers, and kimono-style one pieces.  We avoided dresses unless it was a special occasion since they were kind of a pain and didn't keep her warm enough.

    you must buy these:

     Denim Leggings

I had them in 0-3, 3-6, and 6-9. love them! so comfy but so cute! paired them with a onesie (short or long) and cardigan if it was cooler.

  • Thanks for all it the tips ladies! Good to know that dresses aren't good in the crawling phase, so I won't but too many of those in 6-12 month sizes. Jess, I am going to get some of those!

I did a lot of one piece stuff, it just seemed so much more comfortable to me.  Some of my fav boutique brands are Baby Nay, Kissy Kissy (SO soft!), Le Top, and Zutano.  And I also stocked up on deals from Target, Gymboree and sometimes Janie and Jack.  When Emma was a baby I got tons of stuff from Gap and Old Navy but I think their baby stuff is pretty hit or miss anymore.

  • Sophie was a Dec. baby.  I was so excited about dressing her up, but quickly remembered why Gavin lived in those footed sleepers for the first 3 mos.  They are just so much easier to deal with!  She is just now getting into the fun stage to dress up so I would invest in 6 mos and up.  Which is good b/c you can probably get a ton of summer stuff on sale/clearance soon.  For daycare, my favs are those one piece onesie/romper type cotton outfits.  Simple and inexpensive and I'm not crushed if they get messy.  When it was cooler, she mostly wore a onesie and pants (usually with some ruffles on the butt!)  For weekends, I love any kind of dress/tunic with bloomers or leggings.  So cute.

  • H was a January girl.  We did lots of pants and long sleeved onesies, dresses/tunics with leggings, and layers. I think the layers are key in winter months. She was also a late crawler so we got away with dresses for a lot longer. Also, in spring we did lots of cute dresses and skirts/shirts and like slw I loved the one piece Carter's rompers!

  • Samantha is a spring baby but William was born on Fall. I love footed onesies on babies so he pretty much wear those. They have a lot of cute ruffly footed onesies for newborns.

As Samantha got older, we transitioned her to tunic and leggings.

    Happy shopping!

I know!  All I can look at is dresses, but it's good to know that maybe that's not always practical.  :)

Ruffles, however, I feel are always appropriate!

  • I hit as many of the consignment sales I could this past March/April.  I think the fall ones start in August.  I stocked up on everyday play clothes for really cheap.  That way I could spend more on the adorable stuff at Gymboree, Gap and Janie and Jack!  I have those demin leggins too, she wore them with cute tops and dresses when it was still cool outside.
