Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When did you stop using a monitor?

We have video monitors and love them.  Our twins are 1 year exactly.  They sleep 11.5 - 12 hrs every night...naps twice a day for 1+ hr.

Wondered how long most people used their monitors for...

Re: When did you stop using a monitor?

  • We don't have a video monitor, but we still use our audio monitor and I don't have plans to stop anytime soon. I really like being able to hear her if/when she wakes up. In December, we plan on moving her out of her crib and into a toddler bed. I definitely will want the monitor when she moves into her toddler bed, because I want to be more aware of her movements during the night.

  • The "video monitor" (it's actually a custom solution of ours) will be in DS' room for a lot of time to come. We are still using the audio monitor as well (DS is 22 months) because we live in a 2 story house and wouldn't be able to hear DS until he actually got out of bed and went to the door - which is gated. We are getting a second audio monitor for the baby.

  • DS room is right next to mine and our condo is pretty small, so i stopped using our audio monitor around ten months. DH used it sometimes when he was watching DS until about 14 months. Now we just use it when DS isnt feeling well.

  • never....haha

DS's room is on a different floor than ours so the video monitor paired with teh face I am the worlds lightest sleeper is a lifesaver for us...I don't see any reason to stop using it and like pp when he moves to a bed, we will be even more dependent on it!!!

  • I still use one b/c I like to listen to see how long it takes her to go to bed and when she is starting to wake up in the morning.  I turn it off during the night b/c I can hear her if she starts to cry for some reason.

  • My SIL still uses her video monitor for her almost 4 year old, haha. Especially if he's playing in his room. I probably won't use mine THAT long, but my DD is 15 months and we don't plan on taking it out anytime soon.
  • We still use our moniter every night, I don't see an end in sight.

  • We still use it with our DD.  Though now that's she's out of her crib and into her toddler bed, it's not as important because I know she can get out and come find me.  I figure that I have it anyway, I might as well use it.  Neither of my kids are happy wakers.  DS wakes up screaming every. single. time. And I don't like the thought of him screaming in his crib because I can't hear him.

  • I never really used one at all.

  • We stopped using them when the older ones got twin beds.
  • We stopped using our about 2 months ago. DD sleeps through the night more often without waking up and we turned our bed so I am sleeping right by our door and her room is right next to ours. Our monitor actually makes a high pitch sound at night sometimes and it would wake all of us up and scare us half to death so the only time we use it is if we are outside while she is napping or after she goes to bed at night. We will be getting a new one for the baby but probably wont use it that long wither because her room is across the hall from ours. We live in a tri level house and the up stairs is where all the bedrooms are and its not very big.

  • Last night LOL.  It broke.  I dont really need it.  He is beside our bedroom and I hear everything.  When we move him to the other end of the house when he goes into a big boy bed.  I will prob buy another one since its at other end of house.

  • We are still using one!  I think we will use the video monitor for quite some time yet.  Gives me peace of mind.
