sleep regression

I am so frustrated yall! I love my LO so much and I love holding him, but I have two other children that need my attention. I really thought Liam was going to be my good little sleeper and napper but he is not napping or sleeping well at all these days. I believe he is teething...Not quite sure though. I just want to cry. Last night he was awake every 20 minutes. I think I may have gotten 2 hrs of sleep total. Ugh.....I am holding him while he naps now because every time I put him down those eyes open up. Can anyone commiserate? Gosh, I hope it gets better soon:(

Re: sleep regression

  • Me!!! But we switched Ty's formula and it seems to be doing the trick. If baby sint fully asleep only in the kight sleep and not ready to "disconnect from you" they will wake up when you try to put them down every time...or so I read in The No Cry Sleep Solution book or was it Dr. Sears....Ive read so many cant keep track. They suggest holding/rocking for 20-30 minutes then putting LO down. For us about 10 min seems to do the rick but my LO will only take 15-30 min naps!

Why the formula switch? (My LO is EBF but I am wondering if my diet my be affecting him. Also contemplating going ahead with solids soon.) I also try to make sure he is asleep deeply before I put him down. He is down soundly now after a dose of tylenol. I will probably call the pediatrician tomorrow if he seems uncomfortable all night. Good luck to you!!!
  • We switched formula because that is all we could think of. He used to wake up at night  (about one time only), take a bottle, and go back to bed. Then, he caught a cold and combine that with teething and the 4 mo wakeful as they call it, meant we were getting up 6-11 times a night getting anywhere from 1-3 hours of sleep. After 2 weeks we were like ok something has got to give.

He would wake up screaming and not want his food. He'd shake his head or spit it out. We thought that was weird because he had never done that before. We had tried switching awhile back and decided the enfamil AR with rice formula was best for his reflux. I think it was causing him to have severe gas pains though (which again he never seemed to have before but whatever). I mean we tried everything, calm bath, rocking, walking, bouncing, bouncer on the dryer, music, swing, homeopathic sleep calmer stuff by Hylands, tylenol, teething tablets, oragel, milicon drops, nothing did the trick. So I decided to try enfamil gentlease, which is easier to digest. The day we switched it, he woke up only twice! Once at 12:30 and once at 4:30. Since then, he has been a happier baby and sleeping better.

I know it is a bad habit, but I figure we will brake it once he is sttn again, but I give him a bottle, he starts to fall asleep so I put him in his crib, he begins to wake up, so I give him the bottle back and once he is out, I switch the bottle with the pacifier. The books I have read say its not good to associate sleep with a bottle, but one battle at a time! First, was adjusting to the crib, and getting out of napping in the swing. Next, will be getting rid of the swaddle, and finally we will work on not going to bed with a bottle. When you are that sleep deprived, you tend to go with whatever works!
