No flames if I am the last one with a 19 month old to even start thinking about getting rid of the bottle. The doctors in our group are pretty cool about it. Half say get them off at 18 months or earlier and the other half say 2 years. Just curious what the general age everyone is getting rid of bottles at.
Re: What age did you get rid of baby's bottle? or Plan to?
I started around his first birthday and was down to just at night the next month, then I think another month or so after that he was done all together. But he was just as eager as me to be done, especially during the day. He really loves his cups.
Daytime bottles were gone at 10 months and bedtime one was done at 11 months. I couldn't wait to be done bottles!
Impressive Ladies!
I have a few friends who got rid of them at 12 months and then 18 months. My little one was low weight and had a horrible gag reflex that is still going on. So I hated to give up the bottle as it was his main source of nutrition. Now he loves his cup but still loves the bottle so we are taking baby steps!
At 13 months--when I stopped pumping. She only took bottles (of EBM) at daycare. I was too nervous to send the liquid gold in sippy cups 'cause I thought she may spill it.
She did sippy cups for a short while then we went cold turkey--water from regular cups and momma milk straight from the tap.
My doctors recommend starting at 12 months and like to have them off by 18 months. LO has weight issues so at his 18 month appt we decided the nutrition was more important than cup vs bottle. She said she would like him off by his 2 year old check up.
The next week we bought an Elmo cup and the bottles were history. I am glad we waited on LO and his timing it made things very easy.
I started at 12 months but the daytime one's were gona at 15 months and the one before bed had been gone for about a week. I'm still trying to get rid of the early a.m one ;(
A kiss he will never forget- Disney World 2014
We had some weight and gag reflux issues so nutrition was a reason to keep the bottles for us too. But thanks so much for your post because I never thought of an ELMO CUP! MY LO is obsessed with Elmo and I think that will be the key to an easy transition. Right now he will ONLY drink water out of his cups and the few times I have gotten him to drink milk or smoothies out of his cups has been a total battle. But now with Elmo in the picture I think it will be another story.
I just ordered 3 Elmo straw cups from Amazon...wish me luck!
