Re: ??? Natural Birth Due Date Check-In ???
QOTW:
*We are using essential oils from doTERRA (https://www.mydoterra.com/justsimplylive/) almost exclusively in place of any medications. We even use their TerraShield as our only bug repellent, and it works really well.
*We cloth diaper.
*We reuse the water from our sump pump and rain to water the plants and garden.
* We do a work share at our local CSA to get organic veggies for the entire season.
*We are using up any cleaners we had and are moving towards makingour own cleaners. We've been using Poonico's CD detergent recipe for all of our laundry for about 2 years now.
* We line dry our clothes outside from April or so until October.
*We use a reel mower to cut the grass.
*We can our own veggies and make our own pickles and dilly beans.
That is all I can think of right now. I need to get to bed since tomorrow morning is my CSA work share.
UPDATE: Wow! This baby is really moving a lot. 2 weeks ago our MW said it seems like the baby is trying to get into a breech position. We have a check up tomorrow and we'll see how it is looking. Also, the MW said my urine test said I was burning too much fat, so I've had to watch my diet more closely. My dad still doesn't know we are going with a MW or planning a home water birth. He was so negative when we said we were considering looking into it, that neither of us feel like dealing with the conflict of telling him.
Make a pregnancy ticker
Aside fromthe actual birth, what other ?natural? things do you do or plan to do with yourLO?
We will cloth diaper, breast feed, and I've really focused on eating whole, organic foods during this pregnancy.
Update: It's a boy!
I have a new due date! After an u/s confirmed that I was a couple weeks behind what my period said, I'm due New Year's Eve; 12/31/2011.
If this is a boy we won't be circ'ing (idk if that is considered in the realm of "natural" parenting but it seems to me that leaving the baby in his natural state would go along with it), we CD, use natural/hypoallergenic soap and lotion, etc. DS has inherited my sensitive skin, so we started all of that to keep him healthy, and it turns out it works really well for us for all the othe great reasons too
Aside fromthe actual birth, what other ?natural? things do you do or plan to do with yourLO?
We plan on cloth diapers, breast feeding, co-sleeping, baby wearing, AP. I also want to try to do EC (I already bought a little potty!). We eat only in season fruit and veg, and try to eat only whole grains. I try not to use any non-natural cleaning products. I go to a Acupuncturist/ Chinese doctor for what ails me in pregnancy. I would buy organic food if it was more available to me, but sadly there aren't many great options. Maybe one of the most 'green' things we have is a solar water heater so that all summer we have hot water without needing to heat it, but almost everyone in Israel has that.
Can you add me? I am planning my second HB- probably in the water again and my EDD is February 12th.
As for being natural ::shrugs:: IDK. I BF Lily for 15 months, we recycle, and we try to only buy natural and organic foods and products. In many ways I can relate to the tenants of AP, but I hate the title and many of the people who follow it like it is a religion. Also, I think many people find that it is impossible to be a perfect AP parent when your child becomes a toddler. ;b
We delayed vacs the first time around but will vax on the normal schedule with baby #2 (sans the Hep. B shot)
I'm getting anxious about being late and having GD, so I'm a little grumpy. Hopefully the full moon tonight will bring him along. So far the only thing that helps start birthing waves is being at work, so I keep coming back to work, feeling like the time has come, going home, and then all signs go away. We have a midwife appt this afternoon.
I've been lurking for a while, so I guess it's time for me to come out of hiding!
I'm due 12/22 and planning a waterbirth in a hospital with a CNM. I plan to use HypnoBabies for pain management.
DD 8/28/2014
DD 5/24/2016, stillborn at 40 weeks
QOTW:
We plan on cloth diapering, breast feeding, and making our own baby food. Or at least I plan on this... DH just kind of goes along with it
.
Other natural NBR things we do - Grow our own veggies & preserve our own veggies & fruit. DH is a hunter so we eat a TON of wild game and other meat we mostly get from local farmers. We also use ecofriendly cleaners.
QOTW: Aside fromthe actual birth, what other ?natural? things do you do or plan to do with yourLO?
we're big hippies, so we've already gone almost completely organic in our own food choices and use safe/r cleansers in the house. we'll continue this with even more vigilance with the LO. we'll also be using cloth diapers and i'm planning on EBF. i don't have a garden right now, but we just went under contract for a townhouse that has space for one (yay!), so hopefully that will all go as planned and we'll be in a new place with a garden by the time the baby comes.
Please add me!
Due October 2, Team Blue, Hospital birth with exclusive MW care, considering Hypnobirthing.
We're planning on EBF, cloth diapering, and I'm looking into using natural household cleaners once we settle in to our new house/routine.
Oscar born October 2011
Miscarriage at 8 weeks (August 2013)
DD due September 1, 2014
Please add me too, I have been lurking but now due with #2 Oct 20th and hoping to go more natural with less intervention I need the encouragment.
We are team Pink with #2, and are having a hospital birth with a CNM. Hopefully no pitocin this time and we can successfuly utilize the Bradley training we wanted to use for pain managment.
We CD and EBF with our DS. We are succesfully potty training him at 13 months.
Ok, so I post here pretty often but I've never done an intro or asked to be added to the check-in list!
So count this as my intro as well... My name's Hillary and I live in Texas. We're planning a MW-assisted home birth with Hypnobabies, and we're team green. This is our second LO. Super excited.
We grow most of our own veggies and keep chickens for both eggs and meat. We're considering getting a goat for milk sometime in the near-ish future. Maybe.
We line-dry nearly year-round (outside in the billion-degree heat and then inside during the short Winter). Actually our dryer broke months ago. Haven't noticed its absence.
I'll be BF as long as possible. I'm the major $-winner around here and will be going back to work around 5-6 weeks PP, and am not looking forward to pumping. I didn't make it very long with DD, unfortunately, even though it goes against a lot of my principles. I'll try harder this time, as I know how expensive organic formula is and how heavy the guilt is of giving up. :-(
We also CD and make our own baby food.
We are also trying to phase out our detergents and cleaning supplies. This takes time b/c it takes time to figure out how to do it effectively, but it's a goal. Also phasing out a lot of cosmetics (e.g., we're mostly shampoo-free).
We are also really crafty/DIY-y and upcycle constantly. DH built an entire chicken coop using found materials.
ETA- EDD is July 22. Come on, baby!
Now that I'm in 3rd tri, I'm going to be lurking here a lot more! We're almost finished with our birth classes (6/8 done), and they've been great--very educational, very practical, and made both of us feel like we'll be able to manage labor naturally.
QOTW: We're going to be BF-ing until baby self-weans, using BLW-ing when baby's ready to start solids, co-sleeping, cloth diapering and baby-wearing. We also have been reading about montessori-style parenting, and I think that's the direction we're headed to some extent--wood toys/toys with a purpose that meet baby's needs, no TV, etc. We don't eat all organic, but we remember the dirty dozen and buy those organic--so we'll continue that with baby. We also don't always use "green" cleaning products, household goods, etc., but we try (i.e. using reusable cloths instead of paper towels for cleaning up messes), and we'll continue that as well.
We'll always remember our angel baby: BFP 9/24/10, M/C 10/23/10 8w4d
Hi, there!
Besides giving birth naturally (if all goes well), we'll be BF, BW, doing BLW, CD and EC, and following the principles of AP. I'll be a SAHM too (dunno if that counts as a natural thing, but there it is). What a list of acronyms! lol you know I only came to know them after I started coming here? They're fun once you get the hang of it.
We'll also do our best to eat healthy and organic - I'll even try to keep my kids from sugar up to three of four years old (and I'll join them out of solidarity). But that is way harder than it looks - loads of pressure - so... we'll just see how it goes.
I am very excited as I am almost there already!
Kalicat, chicsub and runrun, loads of happy thoughts coming your way!
All the best! Good luck everyone!
Hi! It's been a while since I checked in I guess. You can change my stats to BOY. Also, we are using HypnoBabies.
Rated "L" For Life Blog
Aside from the actual birth, what other ?natural? things do you do or plan to do with your LO?
Cloth diapers, BFing, eating lots of whole organic foods (like always), not much TV, tons of time outdoors
Update: At 36 week appt. midwife told me baby was "locked and loaded." He's head down and engaged. I am thrilled -- I can't wait to meet this little guy. I will get my first internal at my 37 week appointment. Not sure I really want one, but I get her wanting to have a "base reference" from which to evaluate the rest of my pregnancy/labor.
Can you add me please.
EDD is Sept 7th, location - hospital with a mid-wife, Bradley Method, Team Green
Thanks
We plan to breastfeed, cloth diaper, baby wear, and make our own baby food. We already recycle everything so that won't change.
Updates: Nothing really this week..I am feeling the baby move which is pretty exciting though! My next MW appointment is one week from today.
Breastfeeding and pregnant!
David Christopher is here! Born May 27th (on his due date) at 1am, 8lbs even and 20.5 inches long.

QOTW: Aside from the actual birth, what other ?natural? things do you do or plan to do with your LO?
We are cloth diapering and trying to breast feed only (had to do a little formula for weight gain issues, but we are back to EBF now). My DH also has a garden in our backyard and we plan on making our own baby food when the time comes.
Could you add me, please? EDD Sept. 22, 2011. No method decided. Hospital. Blue.
Thanks!
Also, planning to EBF until I have to go back to work. Planning on at least 2 mouths. (If I had a choice, I would EBF until he was one.) After that, BF and pump. I want to hold off on formula as long as possible.
"Natural" things: We're going to cloth diaper and give breastfeeding a go. We try to stick to organic foods when available because they taste better. We already use nontoxic/super natural cleaners because the dogs like to lick everything they can reach.
We're Team Blue now, btw.
Hello. My due date is November 3rd and we're team green all the way. I plan to deliver at a hospital birthing center and I have a midwife, DH and my sis on my team.
I do plan to cloth diaper, make my own baby food using some of the contents of the organic box we receive each week, and breastfeed. I can't think of anything else right now.
Jace Ryker is here!
Born June 24 at 5:41 pm CST, 8 lbs 5 oz, 21 in long... Birth Story to come
Please add me: EDD September 29th, hospital birth, Hypnobabies, Team Green
QOTW: I plan on EBF, and am playing with the idea of CD but I'm still a little intimidated by it.
