Poll: Does your child have a "lovey?"

If so, at what age did they adopt their blanket, stuffed animal, etc. as their security toy?

Me:  Nothing yet for my Babies, but I wonder if/when they will want a one.

  • Yes! A relatively large soft fuzzy baby blanket. But she didn't get attached to it until around 9-10 months. However, by 11 months she couldn't sleep without it so we caved and let it into the crib a little early. Next time, I will try for something smaller... :)

  • Yep.  A cheapo fleece baby blanket from Ikea (I think it's called 'Vitaminer', the blue one).  Of all the fancy minky, velour and silky blankets he has, he picks the $4 job, lol.

He calls it 'weeby'.  It's been around since he was about 6 months old but he didn't get attached to it specifically till he was about 15 months I think.  It has a little rough bit on the edge from the remnants of the tag that I cut off.  He rubs that spot on his lips to fall asleep.

We keep one in his bed all the time, then there's another one in the family room that he plays with sometimes.  We only take Weeby out of the house with us for long car trips or trips to the doctor, otherwise, he stays home :)  We have 2 other 'back ups' in the closet.  I rotate all 4 of them so they get equal wear and tear (and so he doesn't get too attached to one specific one).  I don't think he can tell them apart.

  • nope, not yet..i keep wondering if he will!
  • I think it was probably right around 11-12 months, but it really kicked in around 15 months and is still going strong now.

She has two that she won't sleep without -- one is an Angel Dear lovey blanket with a duck head and the other is a small 12 in x 12 in crocheted blanket square.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • Yes, Katen has an angeldear giraffe and Ana has a stuffed kitty and also a doll that has realistic hair because she always has a fist full of my hair when we're sleeping together or she's tired and I'm holding her. It was the only way to get her to sleep on her own.  lol!

They adopted them around 6 mos. Ana maybe a little later. I think they're a great emotional comfort.

  • They have their snuggle blankets.  They are home made crochetted (sp?) blankets.  We gave them to them at about 10 months and they were attached by like 13 months.  If we take nothing else with us when we go somewhere overnight these must come with us.

  • Andrew has a small lovey blanket with a monkey head on it - kind of like this one.  He started using it when he napped in his bouncy chair - probably from about 4-5 months adjusted (I didn't mind b/c we were always right there when he was napping and could move it away from his face).  When we moved his naps to his crib (probably about 6 months adjusted) we let him use it there too.  He only uses it in bed, it's a cue that it's time to sleep. It WILL be going with us this weekend when we head out of town! :-)

  • Yes, she has a favorite bear Lucy who goes everywhere and has since around 7 months, when she really identified it as hers.  She had it in the crib then.

She adopted a best friend blanket around 10 months that she loves too, although only for napping, whereas Lucy is a love around the clock type of thing.

  • DS begame attached to blankets a little after he started walking, so ~13-14 months.  It wasn't a specific blanket at first, he was fine with several of them, but by the time he was two he had narrowed it down to just Bear Blanket.

It's big 3x5' and has bears appliqued on it.  I accidentally left it in a cab in Tokyo.  Thank God the driver brought it back to the hotel for us!

One of the Angel Dear lovey's (mini blanket things with stuffed heads),,,he didn't start using it until 6-8 months but became attached around a year. He only has it in bed and when we travel in the car for long trips.

My 2 both have Angel dear blankets - DS has a monkey, DD has a giraffe.  DS could pretty much care less about his, while DD LOVES hers.  She started using it probably around 4-5 months, and would scare the sh*t out of me by putting it over her face to go to sleep.  She is not picky though - if we can't find hers, she will use DS's monkey one, or the spare blue one we have.

We went to the store to buy a baby gift for a friend, and there was a whole wall of the angel dear loveys - I picked one up to give as a gift, and DD was in heaven.  She practically tore that thing out of my hand and pulled it right up to her face with a huge smile on her face.  I had to put that one back :)

  • She has a really soft stuffed lamb she sleeps with, but we don't give it to her except at bedtime. We introduced it around 7 months (flame away!)
