NBR: Can I vacuum my cats??

Okay, I'm joking...mostly. Stick out tongue

I have two cats that used to be indoor/outdoor but are now just indoor. They are shedding EVERYWHERE!! It wouldn't be so bad if they both would let me brush them but one freaks about it. I've tried multiple brushes and none work. Luckily, I think I'll be able to bathe the other one so maybe it will reduce the amount of hair I'm finding.

I wonder if Xanax would work for the other one...j/k

Re: NBR: Can I vacuum my cats??

  • Are you really going to bathe it!?  I would think the vacuum would be easier, hahaha. Oh the joys of summer and cat ownership. Hope you don't have allergies.

  • Lol!  I actually have vacuumed my cat before, and Angora bunny, unfortunately it doesn't help without a brush!  and no, the vacuum "brush" attachment doesn't work!

  • Luckily my longer haired cat is good at grooming herself, so she never needs bathed, she also grooms the kitten. But my fat cat sucks at cleaning herself. She's totally lazy, so I have to bath her. It's never fun.

I reccomend trying the vacum and letting me know how that one goes. Stick out tongue

  • My cat would claw my face off if I tried that, but I vacuum my dog regularly.  She just sits there like "wtf, Mom?!"
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
  • HA HA!!  This made me giggle!  I just saw an infomercial the other day though for some kind of brush that gets rid of all of that extra hair and doesn't hurt them.  I forget what the name of it was though.  You should Google it.

  • Your cat will hate you more for vaccuming them, than for brushing them! LOL I have contemplate dthe idea before too though....it would be amusing....

My long haired cat HATES being brushed too, but she will sit there and let me do it. she makes it known the whole time that she is not enjoying it, but lets me do it. And I have a furminator that I use to brush her. I try to do it AT LEAST once a week. They even have stuff at Pets Mart that you can give them to help with shedding. I have never tried it to see if it works, but you may want to.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one that considers it!

I tapped the brush-hating cat with the lint brush the other day and what came off of him was crazy. I had devilish thoughts of using that on him but I think it pulled his hair since he really gave me a WTH look.

I really miss them doing all of their shedding outside. Since I have placenta previa I'm not supposed to move the furniture to vacuum behind it and I'm really afraid of what's back there. I may have another cat or two.

Hell, my cat runs and hides as soon as I touch the vacuum to take it out of the closet! (the handheld, or full size one) She wont even let it near her LOL .... I'd be missing a face real quick if I tried to force it on her

But oh how it would make things easier! Mine is shedding a storm right now too -- shedding that winter coat now that the heat's come in

My dog, and DEFINITELY my cat, would sh!t themselves if I approached them with that contraption!  lol

  • BTW.... We got one of those really good cat brushes that's supposed to get down to the undercoat and it removes ALOT of furr.... it's kind of expensive but works really well

What doesnt work very well is getting her to cooperate and sit still long enough for me to get ALL of her.  She'll never just sit, she always has to get up and walk away or wont move to her other side, or would rather just roll around and try to claw/play with the brush.  :/

That is exactly what I thought when I saw it. I think I'll save my money.

  • LOL no idea but I'd be curious to find out!  I have to cats that shed constantly too.  My friend vacuums her dog, and he actually seems to enjoy it!  My cats tend to take off when they hear the sound of the vacuum, so I don't think they'd wait around for me to use it on them

Actually, FI mom has two cats that LOVE to have the hose/nozzle part of the vacuum run over them while she's cleaning house. But she's kind of weird too... Big Smile

LOL.  My dog is shedding her winter coat and its insane!  We have a furminator and I brush her for 10 minutes at a time some nights.  Its the most amazing brush.

I've also found the furminator to be helpful. It's amazing how much hair I can get off of my dogs with it!!!!

  • You never know..your cat might like it!  My one dog is terrified of the vacuum.  It paralyzes him.  The only thing that calms him down??  Vacuuming him.  He loves it!!  It's amazing how it puts him at such an ease!

  • I have a long hair cat that I am thinking about shaving because of the large amounts of hair being shed.  Its really bad.  She has the most beautiful hair but its like tumbleweeds across my floor on a daily basis and I vacuum daily.  I trimmed her and it helped a little but with the baby coming I think shaving is going to be my best option.  Not down to the skin but short.

If the vacuum doesn't work, that might be an option for you.

  • My one cat actually liked being vaccumed with the dustbuster!  It was hilarious, I had visions of the flowbee the whole time.
