Success after IF

Anyone have the Mamaroo swing/seat?

We sold Toodle's swing and are deciding which one to potentially get this time (if we bring a baby home). I was planning on the FP My Little Lamb b/c I know people love it, but our last was a FP and I wasn't all that impressed, plus we saw it at Buy Buy Baby this weekend and the footprint is HUGE - it's like 4.5 feet from one leg to the other, I have no idea where we would put that in our TV room which is where I'd prefer to have the swing.

We love the Mamaroo based on aesthetics, the fact that it has a small base and is kind of portable, and based on what it is supposed to do. It gets decent reviews, but there are a few outliers saying they didn't like it (and I know LoveMyMonkey has it and said that Abby didn't like it until 3 mos. old or so) at all. Anyone else have one and how do you like it?

Re: Anyone have the Mamaroo swing/seat?

  • I just sold our Mamaroo.... DS hated it. We tried to put him in it once a week or so from age 2 months on and everytime it ended in tears. When he was about 4 weeks old I traded in one of our Mamaroos (yes, we got 2 as gifts!) and got the R &P and he still loves it. I loved the concept of the Mamaroo, but it was neither fast enough or huggie enough for DS.
3 yrs ttc, 3ivfs, 4 iuis and finally a baby boy! And then a girl to follow. 2 under 2!

  • I want it soooooo bad!!  We still have Aiden's swing and I dunno how to convince DH that we need the Mamaroo.  A good friend has it and she loves it too.  I'm starting to wonder though if it's "spoils" the baby (even though I don't believe in spoiling any baby before 6 months old) cause she seems unhappy whenever she's NOT in it....ha!

  • Hi... I'm a lurker (used to post on IF and PAIF but never really made the transition after DS was born) but thought I'd jump in because we have both the mamaroo and the Sungabunny (which I believe is the successor to the Little Lamb?)

My DS likes both of them, there are good and bad to each.

First, you're right the Snugabunny is enormous and really kind of cumbersome. There's just no way around its size and no way to even break it down easily. That said, the mobile on the Snuga totally captivates my DS... he loves it.  And the seat looks SO cozy, DS will totally nod off in the Snuga.

We registered for and received the Sungabunny and not the mamaroo because according to the manuals, the Snuga had a longer "lifespan" and I just couldn't justify shelling out the cash for just a few months of use.

We wound up getting a used mamaroo for $100 on Craigslist because we saw how much DS loved his bouncer as well.  And, as predicted he loves his mamaroo.

Mamaroo is MUCH sleeker and space efficient.  DS is totally entertained by it... BUT he is not relaxed.  The swing relaxes him.  My (totally un-researched and unscientific) theory is that no matter how "life-life" the movement of the mamaroo is it's still totally mechanical, unlike a swing or bouncer which gets a lot from gravity. In the mamaroo, DS laughs up a storm, it's like an amusement park ride for him and it's fun to watch him have fun.  He is not at all interested in their mobile though.

The other cool part about the mamaroo is that you can plug your ipod into it in addition to it playing built in nature sounds.  We have an ipod loaded with DS music and nature sounds etc... and its nice not to have to listen to the same old tinny lullaby (though the Snuga has some nice nature sounds too).

The mamaroo is also a bit easier to clean - the seat just zips in and out and you can toss it into the laundry quickly and the only other fabric on it is the mobile and those pop in/out quickly too.  The Snuga is a bit more time-consuming to take apart to wash.

Both the mamaroo & Snuga have A/C cords but only the Snuga has a battery!

Perhaps you can pick up a used mamaroo... i feel like they get little use and are often on CL.  The one I got was in the original box and still had the tags.  I fully intend on consigning it or putting it on CL after DS has finished with it.  Also you can buy a replacement seat ($30 i think?) if you'd feel more comfortable than just washing a used one.

OK, that was a novel.  Sorry! :)

I have no direct experience, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but one of my co-workers got a Mamaroo for his son and they returned it within a couple weeks of buying it. Their son slept so well in the FP swings and not at all in the Mamaroo.
