So, the plan for IUI #1 is in place! I believe one follie was 19 and the other one 17. I'm stimming tonight and tomorrow, triggering Friday evening, and coming in for the IUI Saturday morning. I have to figure out how to give myself the trigger since DH is at the firehouse, but at least he'll be able to come with me Saturday morning.
I have 2 questions for you ladies:
If you did your own trigger was it really difficult?
How was your overall IUI experience?
Thank you so much!
ETA: Also, thank you guys so much for all the great advice on pursuing the IUI! It really helped me take the step forward. :-)

I was really nervous doing my first injection too but it turned out to be SO easy...just remember to take your time. The needle is so tiny, you hardly feel it go in.
Another tip I have is when you pinch your skin to do the shot, let go (stop pinching) once the needle is in before you inject the solution. I didn't do that the first time and wound up bruising pretty bad.
The actual IUI was easy-peasy. I was most nervous about DH being able to provide the sample (he gets a little stage fright). It feels just like a pap and it's over in less than two minutes. Then you just lay there for 10-20 minutes and you're on your way.
I'm always pretty bloated for a day or two afterwards and crampy for several days but nothing that would require meds.

Yay for doing an IUI!
I didn't give myself my trigger, but I can tell you the needle was really small and I barely felt a thing when they injected it.
Overall, my IUI wasn't too bad. It felt like a lot of waiting around -- waiting for DH's sample to be ready, waiting for them to take me back for the IUI, waiting to get up from the table when it was done, then waiting to go back for blood work to check progesterone. But the procedure itself was really fast, and felt no different than a Pap smear.
Good luck!!!!

Great! Glad you decided to try the IUI. Good luck!
I did not give my own shot, so no advice there. You might ask the nurse if you can give the shot somewhere besides your rear end, since that might be a difficult angle.
Overall, the IUI was easy. We went in together. I waited while Dh did his part, then the tech told us to wait at a coffee shop and gave us directions. We went there for 45 minutes and came back. Then we were called in and the nurse read aloud my name and Dh's name on the tube with his washed sperm. She told us how many were in there too. Then, they had a receptionist come in and check the names again. They told us they only do one IUI at a time, so they don't mix it up. Then, I undressed from the waist down and she used the speculum and it felt just like a pap smear when she injected the sperm with a syringe that had a flexible tip. Then, I was supposed to lie there for 10 minutes and that's it!

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

Echoing what PPs have said, the trigger is super painless. The worst part is just psyching yourself up to do it. The needle is so small I didn't feel a thing, but it took me about 5 minutes to work up the courage to inject myself!
As for the IUI itself, like others have said, it is just like a pap smear. I had a very tiny amount of cramping (if you can even call it that) when the sperm was being injected, but it was over super quick. I had no cramping after the IUI.
Good luck!!

Same as what Chicago said. I didn't do the trigger either, but some ladies have suggested laying on the bed, using ice on the injection spot or find a friend or family member to help. I am sure you will do wonderfully though.
IUI, for me, was easier than a pap. In my office though they take you back and double check the names (make sure those are the swimmers you want), inject & you lay there for 10. They also used a plastic covered sponge with a string on it after they injected. Not many ladies have had this as part of their procedure (don't be worried if they don't) just in case your office is one that does, you won't be suprised like I was.
Good Luck!!! Those follies sound like great sizes!!!

I am so glad you are able to do the IUI! I did all of my injects myself and it really isn't that bad. The needle is small. I injected in my stomach, just below the belly button. I think the worst part is just getting mentally prepared to stick yourself with a needle. It doesn't really hurt. Also, once you have injected wait a second before pulling the needle out to make sure none of the meds come out with it.
You will do great!!
ETA: I am assuming you are injecting sub-Q, right?
GL with the IUI on Saturday, you'll be fine.

Yay!
I did my trigger. For me thinking about doing the shot was the worst, actually doing it was a breeze.
My overall IUI experience was good. The IUI its self felt like a pap.
Good luck!
