Toughen Up

Just wondering, will my nipples ever toughen up? The initial latch is painful but BF is not painful - so I think latch is good, but my my nipples are still sore! Please tell me they will eventually toughen up.

With both DS and DD, for the first three weeks I would almost jump through the roof from pain at the initial latch, then BFing was fine. Give it a little more time, and good luck!

get lanolin. this will help. it is my second time around BFing and even though it doesnt numb the pain, it helps over the long run.

They will as long as your LO's latch is good! I thought the same thing at the beginning, but it got much easier after a few weeks. Seconding the lanolin suggestion - I also wear breast pads pretty much around the clock, which helps, too.

Mine were pretty sore for the first couple of weeks. I had latch issues, and we used a shield until DD was 6 weeks old. As the PP's said, lanolin is a tremendous help. Also, I found that breast pads helped shield them from a lot of rubbing even when I wasn't leaking.

lanolin lanolin lanolin lanolin! Every time baby eats! The I remember almost screaming for the first 30 seconds of her eating the first week but it only lasted about a week...Keep at it! It gets way better.
