Sahm's what's your "occupation"?

We were signing paperwork today for our new house and my occupation was listed by them as "house wife". Dh joked and told them he only lets me out of the house for special occasions, such as this. They replied that's it's just a widely accepted occupation title. If it wouldn't have delayed things, I probably would have wanted them to change it to something not so 1950 sounding . When it's an option to write your own occupation, what do you answer?

  • I usually get the "home maker" title at least. It implies I am a creator/creative :D

  • Seems like Primary Care Provider would be appropriate too. I am certainly not "making the home" during the day - I'm caring for my child. It really sucks that there isn't an acceptable term for what we do that doesn't feel demeaning, euphemistic, or just incorrect.

    Preach on.

  • On forms yes, homemaker but on Facebook it's - COO (chief operations officer - for the non-corporate types) of our  "last name house" :-)

  • When I was a SAHM (and I still am half the time), I prefer to consider myself a small business owner. After all, he's small, and he's always up in my business.

  • My "resume" on LinkedIn says "CEO of the House of Lastname" and the description is "Stay at home mom to Ben and Cooper.  Responsible for pretty much everything that goes on here, except taking out the garbage, mowing the lawn, and IT services."
