That's the same thing we ran into. My girl name was Lily and boy name was Logan. I thought they were different until I really started investigating it and saw how many people had already named their babies one of those names. This naming business is tough!

I feel ya. That?s what we get for getting older, I guess. All the names that were unique and beautiful before we were ready to have babies also seemed unique and beautiful to our peers who beat us to motherhood!
I am having the same problem with boy names. My husband loves Jacob or Jake and they are both so popular. The best advice I can give is to pick what you like, and don't worry about popularity. Your baby will be unique and special no matter what! Just a suggestion: How about Viviana instead of Vivienne? It's similar and not as popular. That's my sister's name and I was alway jealous of her for having such a unique name!
Choose a name because you love it, not because of it's ranking on a list. Do you really want to settle for a different name because it's less popular and end up hating it for the rest of your life. Most names are popular because they are good names and people like them... is that such a bad thing?

It is ridiculous to get upset that a name is popular. That means people like it. Including you. So use it or pick a less popular name.

I'm really not "upset," it was more of I always saw myself with not as popular names, and it was weird to realize almost all of my names were near top 100. I'm definitely not crying about it!

i agree with this. we named DS #1 logan even though it's in the top 20. but it had special meaning for us (DH's grandparent's last name) and we liked it anyway. and it really suits our little guy. so if there's a name you love, although popular, why not use it?
I hear you on that one! I always LOVED the name Isabelle, but all the Twilight shenanigans just killed it for me. It's not so much I mind that it's popular... it's WHY it's popular that kills it for me.

This! Also, remember that even the popular names are more spread out than they were in decades past. There won't be as many Charlottes in a class in 5 years as there were Jennifers 25 years ago.
Our LO will be named Abigail and, although it is in the top 10, I've never actually met an Abigail of any age in all my life. There are none in my circle and that's enough for me.
I'm with you too. My husband and I both like Emma...actually he's pretty stuck on it. Emma is like what? #1 or #2 on the list?
But when I go through the list of the most popular names I can't name very many children in our area with those names. Like Emma...my DH and I can't name one. It still sucks that they aren't as uncommon and such. But if you LOVE the name and your family/close friends aren't filled with them...maybe it's still worth using.

Here's the thing with name popularity...I think a lot of us on this board (myself included) get kind of wrapped up in it, probably because we're from a generation where a lot of people had the same names. My name is very common in my generation, and I hated that. The thing is, these days people going with a much more diverse set of names, so rankings can be deceptive (since something is always going to be #1). If you look at overall % of babies with each name by year, the top names among children born in the 70s and 80s had far higher percentages than the top names today. So even relatively popular names aren't really the equivalent of naming your kid Jennifer or Jessica 30 years ago.
Here's a trick I made up to get a better gauge on how popular a name really. Look up the % of babies with a name you like. Evelyn, for example, has 0.2989% at #39. Then look up the year you were born, and figure out which names have similar percentages. For the year I was born ('79), here are some similarly popular names:
Jill
0.3015%
Melanie
0.2916%
George 0.2930%
These names are not unheard of (I can think of one or two of each that I've known in my lifetime), but it's not like there were millions of Jills, Melanies, or Georges in my class. Similarly, Charlotte (.2737%) matches up with '79's Dawn and Tina. You should try it with the year you were born to give you the best sense of the name.
PS- I also meant to add that all those names are really lovely. It's a much bigger sin, in my opinion, to go with an obnoxious trendy name that just screams early 2000s/2010s than to go with a classic name that just happens to be popular right now.

We were having the same issue with the name that H and I love. I kept looking for other names, but in the end- we've decided we have to go with what we like, rather than picking something we don't like as much because it's less popular. (Sorry for the run-on sentence)
If you really love a name, don't stress about it. I know plenty of women named Jessica, Jennifer, Amy, Michelle... and really, very few of them hate that it was a popular name for their birth year.
I agee - go with what you LOVE! Check YOUR state/circle of friends because it's bound to be different than what the ssa website has (i.e. popular names might not be common in your area which is all that really matters)
Vivian & Lucy our on our list.
Evelyn is our DD1.
I have a niece named Lily (though I LOVE that name)
And Charlotte I like, but not love.
Pick what YOU LOVE

My top girls name is on there. I loved it cause it wasn't in the top 100 when we chose it, and now it is...Oh well.

I'm with you. I used to think I had unique taste, but apparently I have the same taste as everyone else in the US.
ETA: I love all your name choices, btw!
Thank you!
Make sure you check the popularity of your state too.
