Father's Day

What are you all doing to celebrate? I'm still putting together my thoughts and would love some inspiration!

Re: Father's Day

  • I took photos of Ashton again holding the letters D A D and will frame over the top of last years photos.  I plan on doing this as long as I can get Ashton to hold the letters:)

I also plan to take him to Chucks Steakhouse (groupon anyone) and we'll probably spend the day at the beach. I also am going to get him a tool belt...Exciting huh?!

  • Ummm...no idea. Father's Day here isn't until October anyway (weird, since Mother's Day is the same!) so at least I have time to think. I'm guessing the boys will probably paint him a few masterpieces and we'll call it a day lol!
  • I took E's D-A-D photos and used it as a cover for the daddy-daughter photobook that I made (shutterfly). He got me a DSLR camera for Mother's day so I want to get him a nice FD gift. He's been asking me for massages but I don't have time Stick out tongue to give one so I got him a series of 6 massages in a spa. We'll be having brunch with my IL's on Sunday and I plan to call the spa and book him his 1st massage that afternoon (if there's availability).

ETA: On her D-A-D photos, I had her wear the cute Hawaiian dress that Malia got for E in Hawaii :-). I'll have to pip soon!

  • MH had been drooling over this new grill that was on sale at Target, so I actually got for him two weeks ago and already gave it to him.  I knew he wanted to use it right away.  I asked him yesterday what he wanted to do on Sunday, and all he had to say was, "Why?  What's Sunday?"  I guess he already forgot about it!  :P

  • i did D-A-D photos.  i wanted to do a I <3 DAD, but couldn't find a frame that would work, and i was in a hurry, so...eh.  heh. we'll be traveling on sunday, so won't have time to do much of anything else.

i love the daddy daughter photobook idea!!

  • Wow, love all the creative projects! We bought him a book he's been wanting and A will make a card, which is perfect since he "draws" with crayons now. DH also has been hinting at a massage, so we'll do that too, though probably not actually on Father's Day. Maybe I'll luck out and find a good one on Groupon soon (Renee!). ;-)

  • I did a photo collage on one of the tiny prints cards and just got it in the mail today...it turned out really nice!

after last year, I had planned on doing the D-A-D photos each year but (a) I'm still a little bitter about Mother's day and (b) he never even put up the last photo frame I gave him last year and keeps saying he "can't find a good place to put it up" .....so I just skipped it.  maybe I'll still take some of the photos so we can compare year to year how much she has changed but I'm not going to bother getting them printed or anything.  I hope I don't sound spiteful Embarrassed b/c I'm not... I just kind of feel like "why bother"

I sort of feel this way as well. I got him a GC to Sports Authority so he can use it for runing shoes (which he's been wanting for awhile), or golf stuff and he'll probably go golfing with his family sometime soon. I posted what we did for the grandfather's in my blog :)

Haha. Actually, Mother's Day was pretty lame and he pretty much dropped the ball. I'm definitely not going all out, but I'm hoping to continue to be a "good example" and make it a little special. Getting them something they've been wanting is always good... and easy enough.

And I loved your Grandpa card, Lori. =)

  • Even though I'm still waiting for a birthday and mother's day gift (hey, who's keeping track, right?) I plan on cooking his favorite dish (enchiladas) for dinner like I do each year. He has also been asking for a nook so I suppose that's what he'll get from Cassie. I just don't have the energy to do anything more creative this time.

Lori...love the new look of your blog!

  • I'm glad that I can post and be totally honest and not get flamed on this board :)

great idea :) I will probably cook a nice dinner for Father's Day.

  • So glad to know I'm not the only one whose hubby isn't great with holidays/gifts/etc.  Guess I shouldn't take it personally!

  • We bought a travel trailer this year so I got him a camping toaster, a pan to cook pancakes on the BBQ and a board game.

Russ is REALLY hard to buy for on every occasion.  I originally had to tell him the toaster was silly when he wanted to buy it so that I would have something to buy him later on.
