My little guy and I have had thrush for almost 2 weeks now. He is on Nystatin oral drops and I've got the cream for my nipples. I've been trying to avoid yeast and sugar. I've been rinsing my nipples with vinegar/water after feedings, sanitizing his soother every night, eating more yogurt and airing out my nipples(to my husband's delight).
So my problem is, it's not going away! I'm going to pick up a refill of his Nystatin and try Monistat for my nipples but I'm sort of at a loss to what else I can do. I will try and find the Acidophilus at the drug store while I'm there, as I know that can help too.
Anyone else go through this? What else can I do?!
Re: Persistent Thrush - HELP!
When DD#1 had thrush we did Nystatin for 3 weeks and it would not go away. My doctor suggested Gentian Violet (1%.) Within just a couple of days it was completely gone.
DD#2 has thrush right now (same age DD#1 had it) and we just went straight to the genetian violet instead of nystatin. It has been 1 day and the thrush is already almost completely gone.
My advice, put him in a onesie you don't care about, then put a bib on him that you don't care about. Use a Q-tip and put it on the thrush areas. It is messy, and will stain anything it touches, but it works!
Also, continue to boil nipples for bottles, pacifiers, and keep doing the other things like yogurt, etc.
ETA: You can get it over the counter at drug stores. I got ours from the wal-mart pharmacy.
I can't make it clicky on my phone, but here's more about it: https://www.pregnancy.org/article/all-purpose-nipple-ointment-apno
No diaper rash, thank goodness.
I did go get some Gentian Violet this afternoon and started the treatment, as well as acidophilus pills. I'll be getting some Grapefruit seed extract tomorrow (have to go to a specialized store and didn't get a chance today). Hopefully this all clears up quickly, my nipples are Sore!
