Trouble TTC

WW3TD? (rest or medicated cycle?)

I posted that our IUI #1 morph results came back as 0% which makes us no longer candidates for IUIs if it stays that low. Unfortunately my Dr didn't call me, *I* called for the numbers out of curiosity and found this out and that our Dr is on vacation until next week.

We went ahead and scheduled a repeat SA for MH, which he did yesterday so we'll have the results for next Weds when we meet with the Dr to discuss it all.

Here's the dilemma.. Monday I *should* be CD3 (Tested this am at 13dpiui and BFN so unless it changes tomorrow, AF should come). Our apt is Weds/CD 5.

Would you go ahead and start the Femara again on CD3 and hope the Morph is better this time so we can stay on track? Or would you not put your body through the Femara and consider this cycle just a rest cycle?

Part of me doesn't want to waste a cycle if the SA is better and part of me is feeling hopeless.

Thanks!!

Re: WW3TD? (rest or medicated cycle?)

  • If it were me, I'd go ahead and start femara.  SAs can very a lot from one to the next and I know I'd feel bad if the test came back with some good swimmers. I do hope this SA turns out better for you hon!

  • I would do a break cycle unless you can get the results of the next SA before its time to take the Femara.  I'm agree that I would hate to waste a cycle if it doesn't improve.

There is nothing wrong with taking a break.  Look at my siggy!  You just have to go with your gut.  Good luck!

I would take a break. I am OOP, so I wouldn't want to waste the money. AND you can only take Femara so many times, so I would want to wait a cycle and see if YH SA improves a bit 1st. Good Luck with your decision!

  • That's a hard one. You don't want to go through a medicated cycle if his SA doesn't improve and at the same time you don't want to waste a cycle if his SA does improve. Is there any way they can get you the SA results before your appointment. It would seem like they would have them by Monday and could give you a call rathe than making you wait 'til your appt. (I know ours came back within a day or two.) GL!

  • I was just in a similar situation. I was supposed to start clomid but then found out that we couldn't do iui that cycle because our doctor was going to be out of town. We have a low count issue, but they said it isn't that low so we could still do the clomid. We decided to sit this cycle out. In my mind, it isn't worth the money and potential side effects of clomid if we aren't maximizing the chance of success. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

    Edit: phone auto correct!

  • What if you wait til CD5 to start the Femara? It depends on the Dr., but Femara can be started CD3-4-5 or even later in some cases. Can you call and ask questions? That way- you go in CD5 for your appointment- if it's good- start the Femara, if it's bad- take a break. Or- can you get your results quicker than waiting that long? I know that while I can talk to the Dr. at an appointment- they are always willing to tell me over the phone the results I want to know.

I agree. Plus, if you are OOP or if your insurance covers it, depending on how much they cover (my ins. only covers 6) you might not want to waste a cycle. However, at our clinic it only takes 2 days or so to get SA results. GL!

  • Hmmm...Are you 100% OOP? Or do you have so many IUIs covered? I would take that into consideration. If the cost isn't a major factor for you, I'd go ahead and start...but if it is, I would probably just sit out a cycle. I was always hesitant to take a break cycle but once I did, I found them to be extrememly relaxing!!!

I hope you get better results on the second SA. GL!!!

  • Hmm.. You ladies bring up good points about insurance. Ours covers two (but we're currently in our bridge between HRA and covering it all.. so IDK how that works).

We're lucky the IUIs OOP aren't awful expense wise and we have an FSA for meds, etc.

Sigh. I'm going to try and call Monday for the Morph numbers. The count/motility are usually really fast results but the morph usually takes a few days.. but Monday will be like 6 days! LOL

Thank you ladies. I hate IF so much.

(and for whining value- I just found out I have strep throat. :( Good thing I wasn't KU with our "triplets" because I'm on antibiotics and steriods now and I had a fever of 102.8.. talk about cookin' the babes. Hehe)
