Sorry, ladies! So, last week, we
introduced rice to Sully with no problem. This week, we are doing
oatmeal. Am I supposed to stop the rice altogether while we try new
foods, or is it OK to do both? TIA!
Duh, girl! Haha just kidding...I don't have a clue. We're not there yet, but I think I read that you can introduce new foods weekly/every other week. I would interpret that to mean they can continue to eat what they've already been exposed too, too.
It doesn't mean that you have to stop the rice but at this age most kiddos will only get one serving of rice/grain a day. So if you're feeding the oatmeal you probably won't want to feed the rice cereal at the same time. Oatmeal is better for your LO anyway and is great to mix with fruit/veggies in the future.

When you add one food at a time, you are giving your LO the ability to display a sensitivity. Since you already know they dont have a sensitivity to rice, you can continue to feed that while adding new foods. If your LO gets gassy, fussy, broke out in hives exc. while introducing new foods, you should be able to just cut out the last food offered, to see if they get better, and watch for an allergy or sensitivity to that food. Make sense? I also agree with PP that you dont want to give them too much grain, so I would give one or the other.
