So after the move I had to obviously find a new doctor. I hated searching for a new one since I LOVED my doctor in Seattle, she was such a sweetheart. Everything she did made me feel comfortable, and she was great at answering all the obnoxious questions I had. I think I went in with a full binder paper full of them at my first appointment.
Well, this new doctor is freaking out about my weight. All through high school, and before baby, I weighed between 116-120. That was my "normal". My clothes fit well, I looked healthy, and felt great! This doctor is concerned because technically right now I am at the "ideal" weight for my height, even though 29 weeks. I am five foot eight, and at 29 weeks 148.6 lbs. So in 29 weeks I have gained roughly 28-29 pounds. I eat healthy, and stay active.
She thinks I need to be gaining more than I am now, and wants to send me to a nutritionist to talk about adding in more calories to my diet.
Is this normal?
Usually I eat:
Breakfast: Cereal with fiber and fruit.
Lunch: Sandwich and fruit, or soup and a sliced veggies.
Snack: Yogurt with cottage cheese or cheese and crackers.
Dinner: Something with carbs, protein, veggies.
Snack: More fruit.
Re: Meeting with a nutritionist while pregnant?
It may be time to switch drs... The average woman should gain 25-30 lbs during her entire pregnancy. You're only 29 weeks and have gained 29lbs?? I dont think you have anything to worry about if you go over the 30 lb average, but I also dont think you need to be overloading on calories to try and get there.
Maybe a second opinion is in order??
I have been considering switching to someone new for the past week or two.
The doctor in Seattle wanted me to gain at least a pound a week. I was comfortable with the idea of gaining 40 pounds, even though it was above average. So technically, with what she said, I am right on track. I think she wanted to see a little meat on my bones. haha.
This. I'm small and I gained 35 lbs. during my pregnancy and had a 10lb. baby. It sounds to me like you're right on track with your weight gain.
This.
I didnt gain much with either of my boys, but they were measuring right on schedule so my doc wasn't worried.
I think that second opinion is going to happen.
Thanks ladies!
Could it be that she's worried about blood she may have taken or something she's seeing in your urine?
Reading what you eat - that's a lot of carbs. The cereal, milk and fruit first off in the morning is going to spike your blood sugar. Milk is one of the worst spikers - add in the sugars in teh cereal and fruit - sugar rush. Almost the same as a candy bar. More nutrients than a candy bar - but a sugar rush all the same.
You've got more bread and then fruit at lunch - more carbs. If your snack is cheese and crackers - more carbs. Your nighttime snack is a carb.
If you're healthy - these sorts of things shouldn't be a problem. If she's seeing elevated levels in your blood or urine, might be a problem.
Because your weight gains are so normal, I think there may be something more too this.
Seems like a silly thing to be worried about if your doc wants you to see a nutritionist. Why the harm in seeing a nutrionist? I would hazard a guess that there are very few of us on this board that eat so healthy a nutrionist would be a complete waste.
I totally agree here, what will it hurt to see the nutrtionist. Yes it seems as though your weight is right on track, but it could be something else she's worried about. With that said if there are other things you don't like about this doc than by all means look for someone else.
