Babies: 3 - 6 Months

MIL just might kill my baby

I was over at the IL's this weekend since DD wails everytime she sees them, I'm trying to spend more time there.  I'm putting together MIL's PnP because DD will be sleeping there in about a month while H and I go to my BF's wedding.  MIL says, "the mattress on this is so hard, when she comes to sleep over I'm going to have to put some pillows and blankets in here." Indifferent  I said, you can't do that, babies suffocate and die, that's why the mattress is so hard.  Even my FIL said something.  I have no idea how my H survived that woman.  I'm about to blow off going to that wedding because I will be an absolute wreck the whole time.

  • Tongue Tied  Maybe you can put your FIL in charge of bedtime.

  • Yikes! Sounds like my MIL.

  • There must be an "Evil MIL's guide to childcare" book or something. Because my MIL is equally ridiculous. She can't grasp the concept of "no blankets".
  • If I hear "well this is how we did it, and my kids survived" one more time, I think I might scream.

    ETA- because I can't spell

  • My best friend's MIL told her to tie her LO's pacifier in his mouth WITH A TOWEL.  She followed it up with the "I did it and your DH survived."  I'm surprised my BF is still breathing, she was so shocked!

  • Bring her some brochures about SIDS, or better yet... mail it to her anonymously. LOL.

  • When we picked DS up from my IL's house after they kept him overnight the first time I noticed a VERY fluffy blanket in the PnP and asked DH to say something so it didn't happen again and her response was, "Don't be so paranoid, he looked cold so I covered him up. Besides, he survived." What the heck?! But to be fair she disregards pretty much everything I say, which is why my parents usually watch him.

  • We bought a PNP and a monitor so E could spend the night at MIL's house while we were up visiting and even set everything up for her.  I found out the next day that she let her sleep on the couch...with a giant comforter pushed up around her as "bumpers".  I don't know how E didn't end up in the hospital that night.  She NEVER sleeps on her back or stays in place.  She always ends up on her side and the other side of the crib that I put her on.  Needless to say, MIL will NEVER watch my baby overnight again!

Lol!  She also insists on giving DD her bottle when I'm over there and then proceeds to put the nipple halfway in her mouth. DD is frantically trying to get at it, and then MIL says, "I don't think she's hungry, she isn't drinking anything."  WTF.  Then FIL says that I need to put rice cereal in the bottle...she was about 2 months at this time.  Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure she will not be sleeping over there.

This happens every time my MIL feeds J too.  Whenever they watch him they say he didn't eat because he wasn't hungry but he keeps crying.  Seriously, it's because he's hungry and you aren't putting the bottle in his mouth.

MIL does this with his soothie and doesn't understand why he keeps screaming.  It's like you're teasing him with it and he can't actually get it in his mouth to suck on it.  I get so frustrated watching it, I can't help but walk over and stick it in his mouth.

  • omg im sooo glad that im not the only one w/ a crazy MIL....she put my lil man's face in front of a german shepard so the dog could "smell" him...WTF!  she is never watching our kid...she shakes him( not violently) when she feeds him and just pulls the bottle out for no reason.

but i do find it absolutely hilarious that he wont smile at her, but will smile at everyone else he recognizes.
