January 2012 Moms

Who's planning on finding out & who's going TEAM GREEN?

I am SO TORN lately.

I never thought I would NOT find out (I AM A PLANNER). BUT I have a niece & nephew who were both born in December/January so we'd be set with clothes either way.. (which is the only reason why I would need to know the gender)

What's your plan and WHY?

Re: Who's planning on finding out & who's going TEAM GREEN?

  • I was planning on being team green when I was doing a homebirth ( I wasn't going to have a u/s), but now we have a CNM that I'm sure is going to do the anatomy scan, so now my H is wavering.

  • Well when we thought we were having one baby we wanted to be surprised bc we have friends who went team green and they said it was the best experience when she came out and the drs and nurses exclaimed "it's a girl!!!!".  But now we want to find out simply bc we are having twins and we feel we need to prepare.  lol

  • I plan on finding out for the lame reason of picking out the nursery theme Embarrassed  There's not a lot of neutral themes that I like but part of me does want the element of surprise this time around.  Maybe at the u/s they won't be able to see the goods and therefore won't have a choice, lol.

  • Were team green and are stoked about it!! I think it just adds a really special moment for us. We've been through a lot this past year and after our loss we decided this was something we really wanted to do. Can't really explain it- it was just important to us:)

  • We're finding out for sure. This is our first baby and we'r relying a lot on those we know who have offered hand me downs, so in order to make things easy, we are finding out. I think finding out when you actually have the baby is an awesome moment for you and I can appreciate anyone doing that, I just don't think it will work for us in this case, maybe if we're better off when we decide to have another!
  • We have decided to be Team Green....at first my husband wasnt so thrilled about the idea (he wanted to "plan") but this is our first so I really wanted it to be a suprise.  The way I see it is that in life there really arent that many true SUPRISES and this is something that can be a true suprises in our lives:)
  • I went team green with my ds and I will be team green again! It was so much fun guessing in the last months. It was definately exciting finding out at delivery too. My husband got to tell me it was a boy. This time around I guess my mom or the doc will have to tell me since dh won't be part of the picture, but I still want the surprise. I already have everything I need for a boy and have stocked up on some girl things to hold me over for a while. To me it totally ruins the fun to find out.

  • With my DS we were team green and after a long labor it was a beautiful feeling to hear my husband yell 'it's a boy'. With our DD, we had the ultrasound tech write the sex on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope. When we got home, we opened the envelope and video taped it. I was laid off unexpectedly the week that we had the u/s so it was such a good surprise to find out I was having a girl.

This time around I want to be team green again. We are 90% sure that this is it for us, so I want to enjoy every minute of it and the NOT knowing was so much fun with DS that I want to feel that again. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED knowing that DD was a girl, but I want that surprise feeling during labor again. But who knows, we might change our minds during the u/s :)

I always thought I wouldn't want to know, but now that I'm in the planning stage, I realize how hard it is to find good neutral anything. I want to know now, I've gotten myself worked up lol

  • I am not sure anymore.  At first we were, because I really want to know if it's a girl.  We have 2 boys, but tons of neutral things so it would be okay if we don't know either.  The nursery is already neutral and I wouldn't mind going shopping after the baby is here for cute things.

  • We are planning on finding out because I want to plan and decorate the nursery appropriately :) Although the idea of waiting is really really special too...I wish I was patient enough!

  • We just decided we're going to be team green. DH is more for it than I am. With DS we found out which was nice but this does seem more exciting.
  • We're finding out.  I can't handle when someone knows something I don't.  Just ask my DH or my mom how I handle Christmas!  Lol!

Team green all the way. First time we found out which was nice because we weren't supposed to be able to have any kids, so we got caught up in the moment. The second time Hubby found out on paper from the doctor and I didn't want to know, but cam across the paper by accident a few days later. This time when the doctor asks if we want to know the sex, the answer is NO! Hubby is warned, but he thinks he'll be able to change my mind before the ultrasound. We also already have one of each and are prepared for either, so I'd like this last surprise as this is our last one.
  • We found out last time because I figured everything was a surprise with #1, I wanted to be prepared. My sister was moving and getting rid of her baby clothes/gear from my 2 nephews around the time of my big U/S, so it made sense to find out and luckily since we had a boy we inherited a TON of hand me downs.

This time, we're fully stocked for a boy (DS was November, so not too far off) and our big stuff is all neutral anyway. I know I want to be surprised at least once in my life and if this is a boy, I know it would be really hard to not find out next time. (We are planning on having 3).

We're going to TRY and stay team green. I figure I can go out near the end and buy some newborn necessities for a girl, and I can always return them then if we don't need them.

^^^ Exactly how we feel about it.  We're team green and super excited about it.  I just think having that moment in the hospital where the doc proclaims "It's a boy!" or "It's a girl!" will be really exciting.

We were team green with the first and I'm still not sure how I managed.  It was so worth it when my husband got to say "it's a girl!!"  Now that I know I can wait and as much as I want to know what this little one is, we are going team green again.  :)

  • team green... with dd, we decided to be team green and it was the best decision we made.. when dd was born, we were truly surprised it was a girl not a boy and we want the same with this lil one..

  • I want to be team green so badly but my husband is exactly the opposite! He hates surprises and is horrible at keeping secrets so its not like he would be able to find out and keep it from me. I thought it might be fun to have a surprise second time around but it will never work :(

  • My husband and I are way too impatient to wait until delivery to find out.  We found out with our two daughters and we'll be finiding out this time as well.  If it's another girl, I'll have to contact my friend to have her pass back the baby girl clothes.  If it's a boy, we have a lot of shopping to do.

And, as terrible as this may sound, if it's a girl I would like some time to adjust to the idea of having another girl.  Of course, as I've said previously, I will love my baby regardless of the gender, but I think time would definitely help me get over the disappoinment of not having a son. That and it would give me time to find my daughters a salon to go.  I cannot do three heads of hair. I will go crazy! lol!

  • I'm definitely going to find out...I wish I could know NOW!!! lol. I can't even imagine not knowing, but I'm a planner too.

I looked at some of the gender neutral bedding sets, just to see if I thought it was possible for me to go Team Green, but nothing clicked. I think I'm probably going to wanna go all out with either boy or girl stuff lol

totally team green, we want that surprise at the end of the 9 months

    11.2011 - DS1

    02.2013 - loss at 6 wks

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • Well SO and myself talked it over and want to find out the sex because we'd like to be calling the LO by the right name/sex. I am also a planner and would like to have my babyshower themed with the right colors lol. I guess I'm just picky

  • Team green - I never thought I would want to be until my bf just was.  She got great stuff at all her showers (not 50 formal pink dresses) and loved the surprise.

This!!! We did not find out with DD and DH really wants to with this one. I'm fine with it too if it's really what he wants. It would be nice to know if I need to pull the old clothes out and wash or start buying new ones.

  • We were going to do Team Green. But I just don't think we could do it. We are both curious by nature and need to find out...so I believe we will try to find out if the baby cooperates.

  • We are currently planning on finding out.  Originally I thought maybe team Green, but now we are thinking we would want to know.  Either way I guess it doesn't really matter, but it sure would make planning so much easier and since the baby will be born in January and I live in Chicago, there is no way I am going to go shopping for "baby stuff" after the baby is born.  My plan is just to hunker down and wait out the winter!
