Babies: 0 - 3 Months

LO grunting & squirming for 1-2 hrs before waking in the morning?

LO (6 wks old) usually wakes up between 7:30-8am.  She usually eats before that around 4:30am.  The last several mornings, around 5:30 or 6, she starts constantly grunting and squirming.  This continues until she wakes up to eat.  It's very annoying because she still sleeps in our room so it keeps me awake, and she can't be getting good rest during that time either.  I make sure to burp her very well after the 4:30 feeding...Anyone else have this happen?

Thanks!

Kristina

  • Mine does the same thing. Maybe we just have loud babies the older they get? My LO is almost 4 weeks.

  • DS doesn't go as long as 2 hours but he definitely does that too. He's in the pack n play right next to me so I hear it and am up long before him.
  • DD did this today when DH's alarm went off. I slept through it. We used to bedshare and now she cosleeps in her pack n play, so I've learned to ignore her sleepy noises. I wake up when she cries. :)  GL!

  • My baby boy does the same thing too... Im getting used to it though so I pretty much sleep through it now.

  • Violet does this too, and she sleeps in her room.  She's also very noisy any time she's dreaming (fussing, laughing, squealing, etc.).  I can't really complain, since she's such a good sleeper!

  • My DS did the same thing. He was a really noisy sleeper until about 8 weeks or so. Then he slowly quieted down. Now he only makes little noises and starts stretching about 5-10 minutes before he wakes up.

He's been in his own room in his crib since we came home from the hospital, so we could hear it through the monitor but it wasn't that bothersome.

If it annoys you so much, perhaps it's time to move your LO to their own room. You can turn down the volume on the monitor so the little noises aren't so loud but still hear if he/she starts crying.

  • Yes, Gabriel does this all the time.  Once last week he started squirming, grunting, and crying in his sleep about 4, so I got up and got ready to nurse him.  Yeah, he didn't wake up until 7.  I'm glad I was able to get back to sleep instead of waiting 3 hours in vain for him to wake up, lol.

  • My LO has done it since week 3.  I call it my 30 minute warning, but sometimes it'll take about an hour before he really wakes up.  I usually sleep through it.
  • This is why I moved DS to his own room early on.  I could her crying, but not all the obnoxious sleeping noises.

  • This is why LO was moved to his crib at 6 weeks.  He would wake me up with his grunting, and then I would pick him up, and wake him up.  Not productive or restful for anyone.

  • DD#2 does this too.  Like clock work around 4-4:30 every morning.  When I go in there she has always gotten herself out of the swaddle and is looking around.  I just re-swaddle her and put her paci back in her mouth.  She always goes right back to sleep for another couple of hours.

  • YES. Ugh. I used to pick her up and then realized she wasn't actually awake yet. She does it for a good 2 hours before she wakes up and I'm just laying in bed waiting for the full blown cry. I'm hoping she grows out of it!
