I took the recommendations around xmas seriously & sprout loves playing with the little kitchen that was recommended.
his first birthday is approaching & i'm getting questions about what to get him. besides clothes and more board books, any recs? our family isn't the money-in-the-college-fund type (that's going to be his present from us, lol!)
Re: favorite items for 1 year old?
DS got an Anywhere Chair from Pottery Barn Kids and he loves it. We got the shearling one & it is so soft, he just loves lounging in it!
We also asked for a toy box for DS's first birthday. We kinda felt guilty for asking for something that was really more for us, but you know what, it's a big box and he likes to play with it, puting his toys in and out of it...closing the lid, ect. Bye bye guilt, hello organization!
LOL, that's a good idea!
My husband & I were just thinking the other day: if only there was a task that required everything to be pulled out of something in a disorganized way, we could put the little sprouter to work! he is a champion taker-outer!
Keep the recs coming ! Baby Handy's first birthday is coming up next month and I need ideas as well.
I definitely would like a toy box. Baby Handy loves to take stuff out and put stuff in. He hid my Blackberry the other day in our box where we keep our shoes.

T had a lot of fun with this gear box thingy from about 12-18 months. The gears stack, so she played at stacking them almost as much as moving them from one peg to another. Does Sprout have blocks? FIL bought T this set of soft blocks, and she likes the pictures, the flaps and doors, and the different sounds they make. We still play with them.
I'm still hoping to get T a water table for some kind for this summer.
Balls of different sizes? T is slow to pick up on throwing and kicking, but boys seem much more interested in that stuff.
Radio Flyer Wagon! Warner got one for his first birthday and still loooooooooves it. We have this one:

Over the past year the two big hits have been his water table and his ball pit (the ball pit does take up a bit of space, though). He's also finally getting in to Howdy Cow and riding toys, but other kids might pick up on those sooner.
He was really in to Little People when he turned a year, but that quickly passed and now we have a ton of random little toys. I hate random little toys.
shortly after he was born, my mom called "dibs" on getting him this. her neighbor's little boy, apparently, looks adorable in it & i think she's doing it for photo-op reasons. but i'm glad to hear that it is a good purchase!
Does he have a music/activity table? DS has this one:

He also really liked the ball popper someone mentioned, although ours broke within a couple of months.
Here's a post from a blog I read (the blogger is a Multiples board bumpie).

in addition to the above, a ride-on toy, a big ball, an inflatable pool, pool toys (bucket, shovel, etc), one of those inflatables you put the baby in so he can float in the pool (I love the ones with the "roof" over it), blocks, clothes, hats.
BH2720 got me hooked on the Melissa and Doug puzzles. We have about 5 of them and DD really likes them. They are sold on Amazon (my very favorite store) so they are easy for out of town family to send to you. Also, the prices range from $8 - $20 so it's a nice price range for people who may not want to spend a lot. These are some of the ones we have:

We found DS this battery powered remote control sports car (kinda like hotwheels) but we control it. It has pedals for when he gets older, but he loves zooming around the driveway on it and we can even "drive" it up to the mailbox.
He also received a toy box which was much needed and lately he loves to sit in his rocking chair and "rock".
