Success after IF

Zoloft/Celexa users, I have a couple questions

I recently changed from lexapro 20mg, which I was on for about 5 years to zoloft.

I did a tapering down process and introduction of z at the same time.    I went on 25 of zoloft with 10 of the lexapro for 1 week, then 50 of the zoloft and 5 of the lexapro for another week.

I experienced a family issue 2 days after stopping the lexapro and the zoloft did not have enough time to be effective yet.    So, I got a little more anxious then I would have liked.   I called the Psych and told her about it and she suggested that I up the dose of the zoloft to 75, which I did.

I upped it for 4 days and felt so bad.   Spacey, crying, forgetful, and horrible diareah (like peeing...tmi).   So, I went back to the 50 for a day and felt relief.  I called the Psych and told her.    She is concerned about the bathroom issues and wants me to switch to celexa.

I am SOOO scared to change again.   I have heard some mixed reviews on celexa, which scares me too.    She said that since I was on lexapro that I should do well with celexa.   I just need some advice on how you felt.    I was supposed to switch last night but I am giving it 2 more days on the 50 to see if the bathroom issues calm down before I change it.

1.   Are you on celexa/zoloft?

2.  Do you like it?

3.   Did you experience side effects/how long did they last?

4.  What dose did you start with?

5.   Were you on anything prior to it?

Thanks again!

Re: Zoloft/Celexa users, I have a couple questions

  • 1.   Are you on celexa/zoloft? Zoloft 25 mg

    2.  Do you like it? It feels like an umbrella in a monsoon; only somewhat effective. I liked my Lexapro much better

    3.   Did you experience side effects/how long did they last? None

    4.  What dose did you start with? 25mg

    5.   Were you on anything prior to it? Lexapro 10 mg, but my doctor didn't want me on Lexapro until after I deliver the baby. I'm looking forward to switching!

  • well you know my experience and I am on zoloft. I like it enough, but wow does the pooping sound familiar. I seem to have gotten used to that, and I am taking 100mg.

I have no S/Es on zoloft like I did on lexapro. I started with 25 mg.

I was on lexapro prior, and did well, but gained a lot of weight. DH is on welbutrin, and LOVES it! He has lost weight on it, and has no side effects!

    Good luck.

  • not on them myself, but as a psych nurse and someone close to me dealing with these meds... here's my 2 cents:

I also agree that if you did well on lex you'll do well on celexa. In fact, I have a disdain for zoloft in the 1st place, so I REALLY second that idea. PITA to switch again, I know, but I'm pretty sure you'll feel better on the long run when settled in on celexa.  (zoloft seems to be such a "blanket" med, it just coveres EVERYTHING and you may find yourself complaining that you feel NOTHING in a while. The docs I've worked with ALWAYS reach for celexa over that, and the same rang true with my friend who switched.)
