"Fancy" hotel in austin

I think for DD's birthday we're going to invite two of her friends to spend the night with her at a "fancy" hotel. They can play at the pool all afternoon and then have a "slumber party." DD likes fancy hotels since she stayed in a W hotel once in Dallas when we got a good price. Well yeah, W here in Austin is a little too steep $ the second week in july. Any other ideas where the kids would enjoy the pool and a "fancy" room?

  • I've had really good luck with price line - you can choose the stars you want before you bid. That's such a fun idea!

  • my sister did this once when she was in 7th grade. It was a HUGE hit. Everyone loved it and it was the "big thing" in b-day parties that year. Great idea! I don't have any recommendations though, sorry :( I just wanted to say how awesome it was. :)
  • Is it a Holiday Inn off 35, down around the river, that has a roof top pool?  I used to pass it all the time.  I have no idea what the rooms are like or what is costs but they'd probably love the pool!

    What's your budget?
Her dad is probably comfortable at 200 or less, I would prefer 150 or less since we're splitting it.

She liked the idea once I hyped up how much better a pool party at a hotel with a couple of friends than one at our neighborhood pool. Having her birthday in the summer is hard because I either have to be on top of it and send invites the last week of school or get her school friend addresses prior to school ending. Both of which didn't happen so I'm a little concerned that she wouldn't have a lot of kids at her party. I think I will enjoy the hotel party better too.

  • The Westin at the Domain is 4 stars, would that do?  It has a pretty lobby and a pool.  It's also on priceline (I think the Westin and Renaissance are the only two 4 star hotels in the North section of Austin on priceline)
  • Not sure on rates, but The W downtown is really fancy and really "cool" right now!

The Omni at I-35 and Ben White has an indoor/outdoor pool where you swim under a little glass wall to get between the two.  When I was a kid it was a whyndam and my parents would have a summer employee event there and we thought that was the greatest pool ever!

  • Have you tried hotwire.com?  You can search by area and limit it to only 4 and 5 star hotels.  I recently got the Mariott for $75/night the first week in July using hotwire.  The only bad thing is you don't know the name of the hotel until after you buy.  But, if you limit the search options and check the amenities to make sure it has a pool (it lists them) you should be good.
