tell me about your doula please....

we will deliver at Inova Fairfax and we are thinking we want a doula. Any recommendations? We are high risk, not sure if that would make a difference.

I had a great doula who is based in the Fairfax area. She is also a licensed massage therapist which really helped. She's organized, knowledgeable, and really friendly. My husband was very skeptical of why I would need a doula since I had lots of family here, but he really appreciated her presence afterwards. I was not high risk, but when I got to the hospital they told us LO was in a posterior position ("sunny side up")... and that would run the risk of a c-section. My doula helped me with several exercises which are said to help the baby turn...She was so supportive during this stressful time. I'm sure this contributed to him eventually turning and we were happy to avoid a c-section.

In case she doesn't work out or is booked, I LOVED my doula!!! She is in Alexandria and is accepting new clients now. I will PM you her email address. She went the extra mile for me in my pregnancy. I was trying to acheive a VBAC and she was so supportive through all my fears. She is positive, was often sending me research on both sides of every issue (ones that I asked about and ones I hadn't thought of), and most importantly so knowledgeable and genuine and caring.
