Success after IF

Give me the low down on WCM

When did you start?

How did you introduce it? Mix it with formula?

Should I only offer it in a sippy cup to avoid problems with the bottle/sippy cup?

How much milk should he have in a day?

Any other tips, suggestions etc I should know before starting?

I don't see our pedi until july 18th and would like to start introducing it before then.

When did you start? 11 months

How did you introduce it? Mix it with formula? I started with 1/4 milk to 3/4 formula in bottles and milk only in sippy cups for all meals. I gradually increased the amount of milk until I was out of formula. It took about two months because I didn't realize how long it would take to use up the formula.

Should I only offer it in a sippy cup to avoid problems with the bottle/sippy cup? I put it in the sippys because that's what they have with their meals. I also started cutting out bottles during that time. I dropped the morning bottle first, then afternoon and today is day 2 of no night bottle. They started drinking more milk from their cups as I dropped the bottles.

How much milk should he have in a day? I give them lots of cheese and yogurt so I don't worry about the oz of milk. We use the big straw sippys. I think one is 13 oz and one is 9 oz. I usually fill the 9oz one twice and the 13 oz once. They get milk for three meals and two snacks.

Any other tips, suggestions etc I should know before starting? I highly recommend straw cups if the regular ones aren't working out!

I don't see our pedi until july 18th and would like to start introducing it before then.

  • we started at 11 months

wedid not mix it and jut offered a sippy of milk in place of a bottle of formula. we have only ever offered it in a sippy. Bottle was for formul a, sippy for milk.

Pedi says 12-16oz in a day at age 1. From 11-12 months, i didn't worry  about the amount since he was still getting formula.

For us it was easy to do it gradually. He was off bottles and formula right when he turned 1.

When did you start? Right when she turned 1

How did you introduce it? Mix it with formula?  I just gave it to her that morning, instead of a bottle of formula.  She took one sip, kind of looked at it funny, then drank it all up.  I just stayed with milk the rest of the day and she had no more formula.

Should I only offer it in a sippy cup to avoid problems with the bottle/sippy cup?  We use straw cups.  She had been having water in them for 6 months already at that point and did just fine.  The day I gave her milk, I gave it to her in a straw cup.  She drank it just fine.  I put all the bottles away that day and stuck with the cups.  That said, I understand that some babies won't drink out of a cup, so, I get why some would stick with bottles for a while, but, personally, I only think that's OK when it's for the baby and not because the mother isn't ready to give up bottles.  Again, just my opinion.

How much milk should he have in a day?  My ped said "no more than 20-24 ozs in a day", but, Alana was on the higher end of the weight scale.

Any other tips, suggestions etc I should know before starting?

I don't see our pedi until july 18th and would like to start introducing it b efore then.
