NBR- any nurses out there?

Just took my NCLEX-RN today at 12:30p, shut off after 76 questions and am now overwhelemed with anxiety about if i passed or not... anyways after googling early nclex results I came across this "pearson vue trick" which is that if you go to the website and try to register for the NCLEX RN again it will let you get up untill the creditcard info and then give you a pop-up saying to contact your board of nursing that you already scheduled to take it or something... anyways, I tried & got the "good" pop-up but was just curious if any of you ladies knew about how reliable it is

TIA

Re: NBR- any nurses out there?

  • I haven't heard of that but I took the NCLEX 8 years ago.  I just waited a few days and then checked the site.  I also checked my states board of nursing site where you can verify a license.  I was pretty busy though in the few days after the NCLEX so I didn't really think about the test.  My grandma had passed away 8 hours before I took it.  Good luck!

  • Good luck!  My guess is it's good.  I took it several years ago and only got the minimum # of questions and I passed.

  • That trick wasn't available when I did my NCLEX 7 years ago - but I do recall that it shut me down for the exam pretty early on as well and I was so worried, but I passed and I paid the extra money to get my results early as the anxiety was killing me - I'm sure you did great.

Yes that is true if you do that!!! you can also go to https://licensecheck.hhs.state.ma.us/mylicenseverification/

have the first two pull down menus say nursing and registered nurse and type your name in and you shall see :)!!!!!!!

those are the two ways to do it GOOD LUCK

I think the whole testing on a computer thing was pretty new when I took it 8 years ago and I think it was 3 days later that I found out.  Mine shut off at like 86 questions and I freaked out and seriously could not relax for days.  My mom said when she took it, 30 years ago, it took over a month to get the results lol.  Ugh I would have gone nuts!

I took mine a few years ago...shut off at 75 questions. I waited the 2 days and checked the website, but I know some people have said that if you try and verify your license with your state's board (online) your name will show up a lot sooner than the Pearson website. I've never heard of the trick you mentioned, but like I said, I took mine a few years ago.

It was so nerve-wracking waiting for the results....I mean, they COULD tell you immediatly if you passed or not. I don't know why they make you wait. Good luck!!!!

  • I did the Pearson Vue trick and it worked for me (May 2010).

  • I took the NCLEX 5 years ago and it shut off after 75 questions and it took me 35 min! Boy was I freaking out. Never knew anything about the pearson vue trick, but my licensure was posted the next day on my state's board of nursing website. Good Luck!

  • I am not an RN, but an RVT- our exam is computer based and we get to know right then and there! Whats this waiting crap? No fair! Although, our trst is only newly computer based, within the past 4 years I think. Otherwise- for California- you had to get to Sacramento one specific day in a 6 month time frame, take the test on a scantron with no scratch paper, calculator or any personal belongings... and you had no idea of your score for 6-8 weeks! FYI- the veterinary field 9both DVM and RVT's were not allowed to use a calculator until just a couple years ago..on the the computerized test!

Taking mine next week. I will be dying to know asap! I have heard this trick works.

Out of curiosity how long are you waiting to find a job? Are you worried about the time between having finished school and finding a job? I think I'm going to start applying for jobs in January.  Although my mind is made up to stay home with the baby that long I still sometimes get nervous about it being too much time between school and job searching.

  • Interesting! I didn't hear about that when I took NCLEX two years ago. But mine shut off after 75 questions, and I passed. Everyone that I knew that had an early shut off passed, actually.

Good luck and congratulations! I was SO relieved when that test was behind me!!!

  • Thank you everyone for your responses! I'm hopefull the trick does work & that I did pass ( I'll update this post)

kt77- Originally I was going to start looking for a job sept-ish but now I'm leaning more towards Dec./Jan. ( considering new nurses rarely get holidays off & I plan on EBFing LO) I think most employers would understand the gap from graduation/boards to employment... or maybe I'm being naive? either way it doesn't matter to me bc our babies are only babies once and it goes way too quick!

  •  considering new nurses rarely get holidays off ....

just had to put my two scense in here, if you get most holidays off I wanna know where you work, cuz I need to transfer.  Every place I have ever been has a rotating holiday schedule, and if you work christmas eve for example you get christmas off, work memorial day get off labor day, etc and the next year they flop you.  People don't get sick during bankers hours.

Good luck on finding a job.  I hope you don't get any negativity for being a new mom.  I am new just to this floor about a year now, and some are really mad that I am knocked up.

Word of advice you will probably start off on midnight shift, and if you get offered a day shift; from someone who has been there, there is a reason they are offering a new nurse day shift!  Its a really heavy floor with a high turn over!!!

GL with everything, the new baby,& the new career!

  • I haven't taken my NCLEX yet, but will as soon as we get our testing dates....I just wanted to throw in my two cents about employment.  I had a couple of hospitals contact me following graduation and both of them offered me jobs regardless of my pregnancy and basically just said I would be off for however long I chose for maternity leave and could either orient before baby if I had enough time or after returning. Nobody gave me a hard time about taking time off or the amount of time between graduation and work.  I am also going to be working days...and not because of high turn over rate, but because that is what I requested and both hospitals were willing to work with me on that and were very understanding to the fact that I will have two kids and will be breastfeeding/pumping for one of them! Good luck!!

I totally agree.  I don't know how I would start a new job trying to breast feed.  And I'd rather not leave the baby while he/she is that young.  But the other thing is that I think we learn so much on the job that it will be ok to have that gap between school and job.  I was worrying about that but then realized it's pointless to worry about that when I already have my mind made up to stay home til Jan.  I'm planning on volunteering at the hospital I want to work at (a few hours a week) just to make some connections and keep in the loop. And since I want to work in Peds I was going to subscribe to a couple Peds nursing journals so I can keep up on what is going on.  Not sure how it is where you live but I have a feeling it might take some of my classmates til Jan to find jobs themselves.  It's hard finding jobs with an associates degree here in Chicago.  Congrats on the NCLEX!!!!
  • I took that NCLEX years ago, but if you got the min amt of ?s you more than likely pass. GL
