We flew with Logan at 9 months to hawaii. A new toy, books, puffs, and the ergo for naps kept him occupied. He had just started crawling but was still happy to sit on my lap. It wasn't too bad.
New foods/puffs/crackers that he's never seen before. (We introduced yogurt melts for the first time on a long plane ride... a very successfull distractor!!).

Just did a 6h then 1hr flight (to get to Maine) with M and he was mainly interested in the other people, books, and the earphones. I had a couple of toys for him that I had kept "hidden" for a week or so in advance and he was happy to see them again (maraca, etc).
Do you have one of those soft, cloth acitivity books? Both boys always loved those and I got lots of mileage out of them. I didn't fly with either kiddo that young but kept one attached to our jogging stroller for them while I walked/ran.
