joint tax return

So the husband and I agreed to file jointly for one more year before the divorce is final.  He agreed I could have the fed return check. Problem is that both our names are on the check and he lives over 12 hours away and has no intentions of coming up this way any time soon. The bank refuses to deposit the check, even with a power of attorney unless there is an account in both our names we can deposit into. Any ideas how I can get around it? TIA!
