s/o bottles: Avent or Doc Brown's?

No one mentioned the Avent or Doc Brown bottles in rssn's bottle post - is that because you didn't like them or because you never tried them?  Or are the drop-ins that much better?

Just curious since Avent and Doc Brown were recommended in Baby Bargains.

  • I can only speak for Dr. Browns bottles but I think she said that she didn't want a bunch of parts. Dr. Browns falls into the category where the bottle parts never endTongue Tied. I'm so sick of washing bottle parts.

Yep. They have a million parts. Ok, not a million, but 5. The bottles have this straw-looking piece that is a PITA to clean. They even come with their own little tiny scrubber brush.
  • We switched from the Dr Browns to Born Free bottles because the bottles kept leaking and there are a million pieces. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the BF bottles and will keep buying them.
  • I hate our D Brown Bottles... too many parts, and the nipple is really small.  I love our avent bottles though, large nipples and easy clean up!
  • I agree, Dr. Brown's have too many parts.  For us, we never got to try Avent,  because DD loved the Munchkin ones.  I actually have a brand new 5oz Avent if anyone wants it.
  • We used the Avent Drop-Ins for a while because I got some at my shower. They tend to leak if you don't screw them just right..and the liners are more expensive than the Playtex Drop-Ins. The liners are also harder than the playtex liners so it's harder to squeeze the air out, which we did at first because DD was so gassy.
  • Every Avent bottle we had leaked. You had to put the nipple on the bottle, and then put the cap on (which is harder than it sounds), and even then they leaked sometimes.

The Dr. Brown bottles we love. We only use a bottle or two a day, if that, so maybe that effects my opinion, but I don't think the parts are that much of a pain. We like them!

  • I super puffy hearted our Dr Browns.

the parts weren't hard to clean in my opinion :) I picked up a basket that they all went in and into the dishwasher :)

some bits stood up and some just sat int he basket.

There's a tiny scrub brush for the air vent thingy but seriously you just push it through and then rinse. *shrug*

I bf'ed and he got bottles when I wasn't home or people wanted to feed him, so maybe it's b/c i didn't have to do a bunch of bottles a day.

I think they kept him from having gas issues.

I think this makes a difference. I went back to work and DS1 started daycare when he was 3 months. He ate small amounts frequently so I'd have to send 5 bottles every day. Washing the bottles/parts everynight was a PITA. With DS2 I was at home bfing more so we didn't use nearly as many bottles & I wasn't so annoyed by it. So maybe it depends on how often you'll use a bottle. If just for the occasional bottle, it's probably not that big of a deal, but if for heavy use, bottles with fewer parts might be easier.

We use Avents. They're BPA free now and they're a fine bottle.  I like them.

Were you using this ring in your Avent bottles? It's what keeps it from leaking. All Avents made in the lasr two years come with this ring.

Strange! Our little ones have the ring too.

  • We use dr browns bottles, and I don't mind the parts. Then again, DH does our dishes. We originally used Tommy Tippee bottles, but I didn't like that there always seemed to be a little breastmilk left in the bottle, and DD was always really gassy after using them.
