Who has taken LO to the beach?

We are going to the beach this weekend and just wanted to see what everyone else brought besides the basics stuff. What I'm most concerned about it what to put him in the whole time so I'm not holding him. I was going to bring the bumbo but he only sits in that about 5 minutes. And I'm worried about when he wants to nap. I'm very unprepared I guess. I have no beach umbrella or baby tent. Instead of going out and buying an umbrella we were just going to rent one. But how do you put LO down for a nap without getting him sandy? We are only going for a day and DH is being a cheap a$$ and won't let me buy a tent.

We went back in April but we didnt stay long maybe 30 min tops. I took the baby bjorn or just held him. Used a blanket to cover him from the sun, but then it wasnt super hot like it is now.

I'm glad you posted this- I need to know what to pack, too! We haven't been yet but we're going to Ocean City for a week next month. My parents bought a tent for my nephew last year that we're going to borrow. Aside from that, I've got nothing. Is a pnp too obnoxious for a day at the beach? I'm thinking it is, but it's raised, so that would be good to avoid sand.

We took DS to the beach at 10mos. We did have a small baby tent for him to sit in as well as an umbrella. I hate sitting in the direct sun so we already had this. DS napped in the jogger stroller. We are going to bring the bumbo for DD to sit in when we go next month. All of DS toys we put in the wagon along with out beach chairs and towels and food cooler. Honestly I might even bring the bouncy seat, but keep it in the car in case we need it. Our tent was pretty cheap at BRU, but its a PITA to fold back up. I'm going to try to get DD to nap in the stroller as well. I did pick up a small stroller fan to help keep her cool.

We have a tent thing.

When DD was little, we just put her under it on a towel, with some toys. When she napped, she napped under there. she was one of those who could sleep anywhere, as is DS. So that's the plan for this summer too.

We have taken DD with us several times with the last being Memorial Day weekend, and she loved it. We are beach bums, so she'll be at the beach a lot this summer. Where we go, we drive out onto the beach, so this may or may not influence your packing ability.

DD wore her sunglasses, hat, and a swimshirt & bottoms. We kept her under the large canopy on the beach the whole time except for when we took her to the edge of the water. Under the canopy, I had her Bumbo seat and her carseat. When she got tired, I put her in the carseat, and she went to sleep. The rest of the time she sat in her Bumbo or someone held her and played. I would definitely recommend a PnP though for naps or in case your baby gets tired of being held. Sometimes DD starts fussing and just wants to lay down and kick her legs in peace.

The key is plenty of shade where baby can still enjoy the breeze to keep cooler.

We went to the beach this past weekend! Didn't use sunscreen per pedi, but we kept him under a big beach umbrella when we were outside, and he wore a hat if we ever had to be in the sun for a few minutes. When we were out and about, we used the stroller quite a bit. He slept in it the whole time we were at the aquarium.. such a perfect little boy.

L.L. Bean has wicked nice tents that hold up well, and are spacious enough for you to sit in as well if need be. There were flaps on the side you could roll up if it became too hot, and it was easy to put up and take down. We haven't taken our little guy to the beach yet, but we took my sister's twins when they were 7 months. The tent worked well. It wasn't too expensive, I think I paid $50, but that was 10 years ago, so it might be a little more now. I say only bring what you need, keep it simple!

Didn't think about bringing the stoller and carseat on the beach. I'm so worried about the sand getting all over everything, but I guess it's easy to clean. Graciemay, I would love to bring the pnp. but yeah, probably alittle absurd. My LO is the type that doesn't like to be held all the time, so some kind of shade is a must. We are only going overnight 1 night so I guess even if I don't have enough stuff or the right stuff it won't be too bad.

They have baby tents at babies r us and walmart under $30 that may be worst investing in since LOs under 6 months usually dont use sunblock and also to help block any wind blowing sand in LOs face. We only went once but it wasnt too warm out so we just went to sit by the water, we just changed the stroller to the all terrain wheel setting and took it onto the sand.
