Preemies

Update on Addison...

I just spoke with her nurse and she said they have no plans to extubate her today. They had to increase her vent settings overnight. And for whatever reason she is just now getting her second dose of pain meds post op. She still seems to be kind of sedated. They aren't starting feeds yet today either, and her glucose is elevated.

All I know is my head is spinning right now. We went from being told that they could have extubated in the OR but wanted to wait until she was back in the NICU, to higher settings. Ahhhh the world of a preemie!

I am stuck here at home today, for atleast a little bit while Blake naps, but I am thinking it's best if I take a nap myself. I am simply exhausted from all of this.

  • Sorry :( If it helps at all- surgery is a big thing for their little bodies and many babies need higher vent settings for awhile afterwards. That isn't uncommon, it just means she needs to rest!

She's at a new hospital, right? Is it any better than the other one? I am surprised they told you they would extubate right after, that's a lot of stress on the baby right after surgery!

This.  We were told they might extubate Hunter in the OR, he was on the vent for nearly a week.  He did great once he came off of it, he just needed the help as his body healed and the pain meds did their job.

    Sending Ts&Ps your way!
