Crib tent experiences?

So I woke up at 2am to Cam knocking on her bedroom door from the inside yelling "Mommy, I wake up!". I put her back in her crib and she hopped out again in 2 seconds. She has officially figured it out. Sooo...

I didnt think we were even close to ready for a big girl bed. I was hoping to wait AT LEAST another 6 months, but her climbing out of her crib on her own isnt safe. I have a hand me down crib tent but it kind of worries me. If she is already an expert climber, and can upzip her own jammies (she takes them off almost every night) do you think the crib tent is a hazard (since she will probably figure out how to unzip it, and possibly get hurt?) and I should just bite the bullet on the bed?

When did my kid get so big!?

TIA

  • How old is she? ( you don't have a ticker, sorry I don't remember)

Even a big girl bed, she'd still come to see you

I moved both my kids at 2 and a half.  Which seemed right. BUt I always said if they did the climbing thing I would use a crib tent.  It never happened so I didn't have to buy one.

    But I say try it.

  • At a little over 1 1/2 Blake would like teter on the edge  of his crib and almost fall off so we decided to put him in his toddler bed. I was so nervous because I thought he would be at leaset 2 1/2 or older. He did really good and it was a much easier transistion than I thought. I didn't do the crib tent because I was afraid he would get all tangled up in it.

Max isn't as adventurous as Cam, but I think that at their age, a crib tent might not be the best idea. I think with that big ol' brain of hers, she'll figure it out in no time. I think you should bite the bullet and get a toddler/regular bed. She might love it, and do really well being that she loves to be a "big girl" and all. No fun, dude! I don't envy your situation and I hope Max waits to start climbing out for a few more months.

  • Another vote for the toddler bed - my daughter was a climber from a VERY early age.  She was in a toddler bed by age 1, much earlier than I wanted but I slept better not waiting for that *BONK* in the middle of the night.  (of course, this was long before crib tents...)

  • I don't have any personal experience with a crib tent but a friend loves hers. In my opinion with how you are describing Cam I'd skip the tent. I just read somewhere that unzipping and getting tangled is one of the dangers of the crib tent. (Not trying to alarm anyone or say they are bad to use) You will probably have to deal with her getting up and out out of bed for awhile but hopefully after a week she will adjust to her big girl bed! Good luck! These babies are growimg up fast!

  • S just turned 2 too! We've had her in a toddler bed though since she was about 16 months because she learned then how to climb out. The transition to the toddler bed really wasn't bad. I just made sure there was nothing that she could get into. In the beginning she would get out of her bed and sleep on the floor. Now though, she sleeps through the night in her bed.

Just within the past couple of weeks she figured out how to open her door, so we put one of those things on the door knob to keep her in (we didn't want her roaming the house and/or falling down the stairs).
