Am I the only person that's never heard of this before except on the bump? My husband would probably have a stroke if I told him on top of the $2500-5000 per kid we have to pay for preschool, we had to give another $100 per kid for a gift.
I know money is different for everyone, but that's a decent chunk of change for us.
Last year my son had 4 teachers (Montessori). We gave each one a $25 visa gift card.
This year he has 1 teacher - the class mother collected $10 from each kid for the end of the year gift (also a gift card) and I'm still giving a $25 gift card from us in addition.
We often go smaller at the end of the yea, $20 each, on the individual teachers but send cupcakes or a giftcard for Subway / Pizza for the center. He has his morning breakfast ladies, his morning play teacher, then his regular 2 teachers, plus the afternoon floater and of course the the office manager who is forever answering questions. I always do little $5 Starbucks cards for Halloween, Thanksgiving, super challenging weeks etc. The way we look at it they go far above and beyond to work with our son and us. Yes, we do pay for it but I think of it as a generous tip for making him and us happy.

Being a teacher myself........they (daycare providers/teachers, etc) are the FIRST people we take care of. Just remember that not nearly close to the tuition you pay goes to the teachers.
I am SO appreciative of any gift from my students. Teachers get very few benefits.
Education and care are the MOST important priority on our list for our kids so I want to make sure they are taken care of.
Re: End of the year gift for teachers?
Paige has three teachers, and I gave them each a set of $30 mini cake pans from William Sonoma and some cake mix. It came out to about $40 a teacher.
They were very grateful.
We just did this same exact thing......visa gift cards from the whole class for each teacher and almost all of us gave $25-$30 PER teacher.
