LO is congested...

Ugh... I feel so bad for him.. it's like he's trying to hack a loogie up but obviously doesn't know how to do that.  I've been using the snot sucker all day and I'm about to call the pedi to see if I should bring him in.  Have any of you had this happen yet?

  • Yup...poor little guy, I'm sorry.  Did you take his temp?  DS came down with a virus after his very first week in DC and had it for a little over three weeks :(  Anyways, things you can do that our pedi recommended: humidifer (huge lifesaver!), elevate the crib mattress (I just put the Boppy underneath), & saline drops....that was pretty much it....it's not a good feeling when they're sick- you feel so helpless- hope it passes quickly for Liam!

  • Yup our LO had a virus too and a round of antibiotics was needed to clear him up. The dumb cold also threw off his sleep schedule!

  • Poor baby. :( Have you tried some saline spray (we use Little Noses brand) before using the snot sucker? That helps a ton when C is congested.

  • Yes she's had a few daycare colds already. If no fever, try saline drops, sitting in the bathroom with a hot shower running for the steam, pedi also said to use a little Vicks vabor rub. I think maybe there's special Vicks for babies? I don't know. But the pedi had said they don't really recommend cold medicine for babies, so that's all I could do (but she didn't have a fever).

  • Yes, we are still getting over it! DS had RSV last week and started breathing treatments to help with his wheezing. The Pedi said it was going around. We did the saline drops and steam in the bathroom to help. He also had a fever and had to take tylenol. The Pedi said antibotics would not help because it was a virus. My pedi always says call if they stop eating for 12 hours, breathing gets worse due to conjestion or have a fever over 100.4, Hope he gets well!

  • Something we always do is run a cool mist humidifier in LOs bedroom.  Seems to loosen up the congestion and make it easier to get rid of.

  • LO had her first cold/minor ear infection about 3 weeks ago.  We took her to the pedi twice over 10 days, but they really couldn't do much for us since no fever.  They did end up giving us ammoxicillan (sp?) for the ear infection.

    Here's their advice:

    prop crib or use RnP

    cold mist humidifier

    saline nose drops

Nosefrieda (works really well with colds)

keep an eye on feedings and wet/poopy diapers for a drastic change

  • We just went to the pedi today for our 4 mo well visit but DD also had a cold. The Pedi recommended using the humidifier, saline drops and nose aspirator. She said it could take up to two weeks to go away :(. I've been using baby vaporub as well.
