Sleep help: early wake ups

I'm out of ideas Logan has been getting up for a couple of months now between 5:45am-6:15am. He's tired and whiney and a total pill most of the day. We have tried: - the bunny ok to wake clock - going to be really early - going to bed late - marching him back to bed when he gets up too early. We are not the best with this one, he cries and I'm afraid he will wake Dylan. I usually try a couple times Dh and I are done and tired too. We take turns turning getting up with him and turning on the tv getting him some milk and going back to bed. This is not a solution! If he was just an early riser and in a good mood it would be different. But he's still tired. Help

Re: Sleep help: early wake ups

  • What do his naps look like? How long? What time does he wake up?

  • We use the clock and it works wonders!  What we did was start early....O wakes before 6am as well, so we started the clock at 6am....for a couple of days then moved it back 5 minutes every few days and now it's at 6:40am.  We find now he sleeps until about 6:30am now, but waits to call us until the light turns.

Maybe a gradual push-back like that will help?

  • A: on the days he's really overtired he sometimes only sleeps for an hour. A good nap is 2 hours. I'm elated if it's two hours Spicy: I will try that. Right now I want to throw the bunny against the wall, Logan could care less if the bunny is still sleeping! He says, Logan wake up mommy. Grrrrr
  • I know my boys can't nap past 3:30/4 or bedtime/wake ups will be a nightmare.

So sorry. Sleep issues are not fun.

Any chance he's getting cold/not warm enough?

  • It's possible, as soon as he wakes up I'm going to try making his room as dark as a cave. Maybe just maybe the teeny tiny bit of light coming in is the kicker.
  • Yes!  The clock started ugly with us as well, b/c it was too long for him to wait, so we pushed the time up so that he'd have some success and positive reinforcement and inched it back slowly!  Good Luck!!  My boys are early risers, tho and I think I'll never sleep in past 6am again!  (N is up b/4 6am daily-even tho we don't get him until 6:30am.)  Good Luck!!

  • Dylan sleeps till7:30/8!! If only Logan did this too, maybe I could function without so much caffeine.
  • i agree with the slow change.

We also talked about the bunny a lot. stuff like:

Look, the bunny is sleepy now too! I wonder when he'll wake up.

Let's stay in the room and be quiet while the bunny sleeps. When he wake up it's time to play!

stuff like that, just to introduce the idea that the bunny sleeps/is quiet when the kiddo is sleeping/is quiet.

It took a few days or introduction and setting it to when he normally would wake up before we started to move it back. I think it took about 2 weeks until he was waiting until the bunny woke up to call for us.

It's really exciting for him to see the bunny wake up :)

    Good luck.

  • I never heard of this bunny clock. I think I  need one, DD often gets up at 5:45.

  • I dunno. sabrina started doing the same thing a couple months ago, mainly because her brother is an early waker and she's jealous and doesn't want to miss anything. It makes for a very tired girl early on but nothing has worked. The night light/clock? It bugs her and she throws it across the room. Good times.
